I really have no idea what to make of Season 4 other than it was obviously the weakest season of Fargo...by far. That said, it was still enjoyable albeit nothing great. I feel like if the show was under a different name and that was the first season, it would have been more compelling just because we wouldn't have all been holding it up against previous seasons of Fargo that are just too hard to match or top. I still think there were some serious miscasts and this season didn't focus on some of the better characters as much as it should have (Oraetta, Rabbi, hell, even Loy). I suppose the season is worth watching, so long as you go into it with the lowest of expectations and certainly don't expect for it to be on par with any of the three previous seasons.
‘Fargo’ Season 4 Finale: Noah Hawley On Shocker End; ‘Alien’ TV Series Buzz – Deadline DEADLINE: Have you laid down any beats for Fargo season five yet? HAWLEY: I don’t have any beats there. I mean, I think I have an interest in mind, but I haven’t been able to really develop yet. But I’ve stopped saying that I’m not interested in doing another one, but I think I would come back closer to our present moment.
underwhelming finale to an underwhelming season. I wonder if Hawley was thinking that last shot of Milligan was gona blow our minds when everyone predicted it in the first episode. What did I miss, why did Loy's men turn on them? I can't recommend watching it either, pretty dull for the most part. I would recommend watching "East/West" (the Rabbi/Satchel episode) and it probably works just fine on its own.
Hawley said there was originally a different ending that they shot with multiple scenes of Milligan in the 90's working for the Kansas City Mob, ending in a "classic" Milligan monologue but Hawley cut it because he felt it took away the impact from Loy's death (which barely did anything for me in the first place). That's why the finale was only 40 minutes. Hawley has lost it man. It's like this whole season was an 11 hour origin story for a character and then you cut the payoff to it.
I didn't stick around for the scene after the credits. Sounds like I didn't miss anything though. Same could be said for practically the whole season IMO.
I can’t even remember the relationship between Loy and the bank robber - what was that significance beyond her gf getting wacked?
She (somehow?) figured out that Loy told the cop where her and her girlfriend were getting on a train.
Think as a collection of moments, there will be some stuff i liked from this season. I LOVED when Oraetta looked in the car window and saw her face all deformed, one of my favorite shots of the series period. But this story was weak, the pacing was atrocious, and the characters probably needed to be cut down by a third at least. Thinking I got 2314 as my ranking.
WHAT - I just realized/found out the actress who plays Swanee is Kelsey Asbille, who plays a prominent character in one of my favorite shows over the last few years, Yellowstone, AND is also in the incredible film Wind River, opposite Jeremy Renner. Nice
there's also a strange controversy with her, where she claims to be a Native American yet the tribe she claims to be a part of says she is not.
Oof that finale did almost nothing for me. Don’t think I would even recommend watching this season to people who haven’t seen it. Whole thing was just a mess.
So, like... did Josto actually mean for Oraetta to kill his dad? Still unclear about that. I mean either way it’s very weird that he didn’t even try to explain himself by claiming he literally meant to take care of him, which from his dialogue in the car might’ve been true anyway. Honestly would’ve led to a funny moment where he had to explain Gaetano’s death too, where it occurs to him that it was just as absurd and unbelievable as it sounds. Also wtf way to make a complete fucking asshole out of the one seemingly redeemable guy on the Fadda side at the last second. They couldn’t write in Loy being appreciative of his family without also ruining Ebal?
As for the post credits scene... if I’m not mistaken, that wasn’t a newly filmed scene. Pretty sure that was taken directly from an episode in season 2, which would explain why it felt like such an afterthought. I liked that it gave context to that moment, but yeah getting something a little more would’ve been nice.
Yeah the fact he didn't even really bother to explain himself, when he knew it looked like he would be killed, was pretty strange.
Anyway yeah this season was very underwhelming and I can’t say I’d recommend it either. It was all over the place and almost entirely devoid of the fingerprints that make this show what it is. The few highs were not really worth the whole imo
Also agree that it was weird they made the one guy who seemed to have a moral compass on the Fadda crew a bad guy.
Not to be contrarian but.... that dude *was* a gangster lol like, yeah he seemed to have a code, but that didn’t stand out to me as weird or out of character. The mafia was a national outfit and Cannon’s guys were not, felt like run of the mill mob shit.
I hear you on the logistics of this but it was pretty indisputably a complete 180 on his character for the 10 episodes prior. At the very least it shows how poorly written he was for the entire season up until then
Lol no kidding — I had to look it up specifically for the post. Ebal is the guy at the end that took half of Loy’s business. The dude that was friends with the Doctor
Took a few minutes of sifting through but I found this btw — 26:06 in s2e9. I think with quarantine and all it (maybe?) makes sense that they couldn’t just film something new, but yeah this was an old scene which is why it felt so tacked on.
