Nah I love the TE and don't want to get rid of it because of one horrible season. Plus it's another draft strategy--go after one of the top TE's and have an advantage there, but lose out on another skill player in the process.

In my main auction league sometimes if I get the chance I try to monopolize the position and have had some success starting two TEs. Helped me make hte playoffs one year (but IIRC, Gronk got hurt and my replacement for the flex was not good)

You can still play a TE in the flex spot my guy. If you have Andrews/Kelce it's still a much safer play than whatever 2nd flex guy you'd end up starting, but if you don't have either of them, open it up

It's not just one horrible season. Tight End has been a historically awful position for Fantasy Football. I am firmly against even drafting a TE. I say this every year, but I always draft a TE with my 3rd to last pick (TE 3rd to last, kicker second to last, defense last). No matter what.

Anyone who drafts a TE early just misses out on a more skilled position player. In my opinion, it's not worth getting a Kelce over a RB or WR 1 or 2.

Some leagues make TE receptions worth more than RB/WR receptions, which imo is a much better solution than getting rid of the position. Eliminating the TE spot entirely simplifies the game too much for my liking

I typically make sure I have a decent TE every year in my leagues with the exception of hte one league im in where we just have 3 WR/TE flex spots instead of WR or TE. I've enjoyed some success with it! lol

This year is the first year in a while actually where one of my teams doesn't have a legit TE. But part of that is the collapse of the position this year, i have pat/kmet combo in that league

We're on like year 6 of TE's being so paper thin for depth that there literally arent 12 of them. There arent even 8 of them most years.

If anything, this year has been the best for being able to stream week to week.

Feel like we've had at least 6-8 "must starts" the last couple years (and maybe before that too, but only able to see last two years on yahoo) before you got to the matchup plays/streamers. THough one of those guys is Taysom Hill back when he had his QB/TE dual eligibility in yahoo haha

On the contrary, look at the math right now, Kelce has 110 more pts than the 4th best TE. If you have the 12th best TE, you are getting 1/3rd the points of Kelce on average.

If you have Kelce, you have the equivalent to the 4th best RB or 3rd best WR right now (in 0.5ppr). If you have anyone outside of the top 3 TE's this season (Kelce, Andrews, Hock), you have the equivalent to the 40th best RB or WR. You go from an elite, must start player to a guy that if didnt HAVE to play them, you never would.

"Must play" in the sense that the position is "if he gets 7pts its a win", sure. Must play as in "there arent guys on your bench who would laughably outscore them", absolutely not.

In 2021, TE's #5-10 were basically all the same (~140pts in 0.5ppr)...they were equivalent to the 30th best RB or the 36th best WR. That means 2/3rds of your league is starting a guy they would not otherwise flex most weeks.

Kicker is the worst position, because its just a complete crapshoot, but TE is a close 2nd. Glad to have gotten rid of both positions and use flex spots instead

One horrible TE season???? I’ve been trying to ban the TE roster spot for an extra flex for like 5 years now.

That way go ahead and draft Kelce or Andrews, but I shouldn’t be scrapping at the bits to get Gerald Everett vs Hayden Hurst vs Foster Moreau into my lineup with Pollard, Burks, etc on my bench.

Like, half of Hock's points came in one game, haha.

I'd rather have three strong RBs or WRs than 1 great TE and a decent set of RBs or WRs. The person who has Kelce in every league missed out on a sure fire RB1 or WR1 when everyone else likely got one, and everyone else is still struggling with the TE position. I look at the TE position where everyone in the league struggles at, so it's not really a disadvantage to have a bad one. But if you don't have top notch RB/WR1s you're fucked.

Kickers are the worst because the difference between an elite kicker and a trash kicker is like 20-25pts a season. While the difference between elite and trash at every other position is 100+ points a season.

And yet, every kicker will have 10+ point swings in scoring during a season and you have absolutely no idea why.

Which of course makes it even worse...there's 2 startable TE's if there wasnt a TE spot.

Nah, they got a locked in RB1/WR1 in numbers. And then take Dameon Pierce or an Etienne 5-6 rounds later...or pick up a Kenneth Walker or D'onta Foreman on waivers...and get the kind of production you cant even pretend to get from a TE you pick up off waivers

I mean I have Kittle and outside of a few games he’s getting like 6 points a game.

Just saying - I would have loved to grab Etienne in the 6th-7th round but he was drafted in the 3rd. The 7th round was when Kenneth Walker went lol

In competitive leagues it is tough to go TE early because you have to HIT your mid round picks which it’s literally all a crap shoot. The kid in my league who went Kelce in the 2nd sure has that advantage, but his WR2 is Donavan Peoples Jones and has been for like 7 weeks.

    It’s all terrible hahaha

Has anyone ever been in a league where you start an individual defender?

    Brutal.

I'd like to do a more basic one...with like, 3-4 IDP spots. Require a DL, LB, DB, and a flex maybe? Then at least your options are pretty open and you're not on defender #100.

Though I imagine that tackles are like receptions and there's some ILB who is the Wes Welker of IDP

I simply could never do a defensive player, I’m trying to eliminate playing a whole freakin defense. Most weeks you get -2 points. It’s so pointless

What kind of league do you play in where most weeks your defense is getting -2 points???

I think I can count on one hand how many times I’ve had a defense score negative points in 15 years of playing FF.

I did the individual defender back when I first started playing for a few years in 2007. I think it was more common back then. We stopped doing it though after a few years. It was awful though, haha

And I def prefer the challenge of TE drafting strategy vs. starting like Jakobi Myers as my 2nd flex

Yeah, I just cant understand wanting to pretend there is nuance between Gary Dulcich and Cade Otton when we should all just rightfully continue on our day having no idea who either of those dudes are.

My league is 2WR/2RB/3Flex, and my flexes are AJ Brown, Gus Edwards, and Christian Watson. My next two up are Treylon Burks and Kyren Williams. I used to go nuts having to waste two roster spots on two shitters who combined weren't gonna break 80 catches and 800yds on the season.

Its supposed to be fun to watch your team rack up points...give me Christian Watson as an extra flex over Knute Jepson
