    12 team, half PPR

    QB: R. Wilson, K. Murray
WR: J. Edelman, T. Lockett, R. Anderson, E. Sanders, Tr. Smith
    RB: D. Johnson, A. Jones, L. Fournette, A. Peterson, T. Pollard
    TE: V. McDonald, J. Doyle
    K: B. Maher
    Def: Cleveland

I'm liking my RBs. Not in love with my WRs but think I should be able to get by with what I've got for now.

Pretty solid for a 12 team league.

I feel like people are overdrafting Kelce, Ertz and Kittle.

Not by points alone as they all score like top 10 WRs. But that’s not the only factor, scarcity matters when it comes to value as well. The TE position is not scarce like the WR/RB positions are so there isn’t as sharp of a drop-off.

The second-tier value at TE after those top 3 lasts all the way through the mid rounds. I see a lot of teams that have one of those 3 TE seriously lacking at either WR or RB because those positions dwindled quickly... while a lot of people with rock solid RB and WR still managed to snag a high upside TE

It feels like you've never played fantasy before with that statement...trust me, as someone whose league doesnt have a TE position this year, there are maybe 6 TE's that are even draftable if not required. The position is so scarce its laughable. There are, 100%, not 12 TEs worth playing in fantasy football.

The #8 TE (Kyle Rudolph...) scored less than half the points of the #1 (Kelce) per game last year. You literally cant find stronger value by round than drafting a TE high; if you knew you'd beat most of your opponents by 6+pts/game at one position every week, you might well draft that person #1 overall. Not to mention the bench space, waiver priority and/or FAAB money you wasted on the #16 TE because you have to stream terrible TEs.

I just ran a mock in my league (we're 2RB, 2WR, 2 Flex (W/R/T), 5 bench spots...so 14 rounds total)...there were 7 TE's taken in the whole thing. The lies you tell yourself about a Njoku or a Vance McDonald...they dont exist in a non-TE league. You recognize them for the garbage that they are and instead you take a Chase Edmonds or Dion Lewis in Round 13, because you're an ACL injury away from value, whereas TE's will always be garbage. Nobody in my league is ever going to ask about Jack Doyle or Trey Burton or god forbid, Jason Witten...they are so far off the radar of playable that the idea of rostering them is to give up on the season.

edit: Btw, I do think Kittle is being over-drafted, I dont see him nearly matching last year. But even then, he's slotting in around the "RB2 who could bust" (Fournette, Freeman, Mack, etc)...and the edge of WR2's. Thats still solid value even if he does 80% of last year.

I have been trying to get rid of the TE position for a few years now, but my league is the most conservative “we won’t change anything” people. I can’t even get PPR to happen.

With that said, I’m not drafting the top 3 early. I feel so much better stocking up on RB/WE depth. In all my mocks where I take a Kelce/Ertz my team is all screwed up.

I’ll take a flyer on Howard if he’s there in the mid rounds, but if not, I’m waiting and taking a shitty ass one at the end.

Man, you at least gotta get em to do PPR!

I took Howard in the 5th last weekend and liked my team much more than the teams who snagged Kelce, Ertz, and Kittle early. I'll most likely try to get him again in my next draft around that spot.

IT IS INSANE we still do standard. I have been asking for PPR for I think 5 years now and every time my 2 most opinionated friends hate it (one being the commissioner). Their reasoning is: “it only makes the great players even better.” Which I disagree with. Last year the commissioner didn’t even order a draft board for our live draft, and didn’t tell us until day of. I offered to buy it 3 weeks before lol.

But yeah Howard is a good option at that position. You can still get high upside consistent weeks while also not dishing out a top 2 pick.

haha thats crazy. I've played both ways and enjoy PPR so much more - luckily the two leagues I'm in plays PPR (I'm the commish of one so theres no choice haha).

It makes guys like Jalen Richard relevant. There were weeks Richard would have like 8 catches for 30 yards, which in standard is a whopping 3 pts, but in PPR you'd get 11, which leads to higher scoring, more exciting games imo.

didnt Kittle set the record (or come close to it) for most yards after the catch last year? There is an extraordinarily good chance he doesnt come close to those numbers but yes, he should still be a top 3 TE taken

TE is basically like 7 deep this year. In whatever order:

Kelce, Kittle, Ertz, Howard, Engram, Cook, Henry

after that it gets REALLY murky

Right, PPR makes superstar James White a top 10 RB. The greats keep getting better. Sheesh lol

Yeah I don't want anything to do with anyone after those 7 besides maybe Vance. I keep hearing Darren Waller could be a breakout for the Raiders in place of Cook this year, but honestly, who knows.

He also is the same person who said: "we should do a paper draft. No internet access, not looking up anything." I was like yeah fuck that. I'm paying $100 for this, I am using my computer to assist me while drafting.

This is the argument my league has. Why should a guy get a point for a catch that gains 0-1 yards?

  14. chcougar1

    Trusted

Lol yeah what? There’s like three Tight ends consistent enough to actually contribute almost every week. Kelce, Ertz, and Kittle are basically it. I’m not sure if I like that I took Kittle in the third but remember Gronk was in the first round conversation for a reason when he played.

I hear that argument a ton. My argument is PPR is more fun.

5 mins left in the game, you're down by 4 pts. Instead of your player needing 50 yards to win the week, he could get 3 catches for 20 yards and you'd get the win. It makes watching the games much more interesting. Plus, catching the ball 8 times in a game against NFL defenses is pretty difficult in itself, right?

Did my first draft last night (I'm the commissioner). Got the first pick in the draft. First time that's ever happened for me.

    12 man, 1 ppr,

    QB: Kyler Murray (12)
    RB: Christian McCaffrey (1)
    RB: Devonta Freeman (2)
    RB: Melvin Gordon (5)
    RB: Miles Sanders (7)
    RB: Royce Freeman (8)
    RB: Chris Thompson (14)
    WR: Antonio Brown (3)
    WR: Cooper Kupp (5)
    WR: Josh Gordon (6)
    WR: Dante Pettis (9)
    WR: Anthony Miller (13)
    TE: Delanie Walker (10)
    K: Jason Myers (16)
    DEF: New Orleans (15)

I actually think it's a pretty good team (which I rarely say about my teams after a draft). Could use some depth at WR, but I'm hoping some of these RB's pan out for trade bait.

Just gotta hope Josh Gordon can stay in there and Melvin Gordon comes back a little earlier than expected.

Kyler Murray was an accidental autodraft. Was gonna pick up a receiver at that point and take Josh Allen at the end, but it is what it is. I'm not expecting him to be a Patrick Mahomes, but hopefully he will play better than he did in the preseason. If not Josh Allen is sitting on the waivers so I can just pick him up or make a trade at some point.

I love this team. Getting CMC in the first, taking Brown and Freeman on the swing, while still managing to scoop up Kupp and M. Gordon after is a whole lotta good luck. If Gordon comes back realitvely soon you'll be a wrecking ball. If he stays out Sanders will be a decent RB3 as a backup option!

Thanks, I really want Miles Sanders and Melvin Gordon to pan out so I can maybe swing them for a more stable WR2.

    @preppyak @chcougar1 @xbrokendownx This is all I was saying.

Also I really don’t think there’s only 7 usable TE. We’re at least forgetting three: Greg Olsen (still likely to be favored by Cam), Delanie Walker (the rest of the Titans receivers are duds but he’s actually consistent), and Jack Doyle (out-targeted Ebron last year and was Brissett’s top target in 2017). I also don’t think we should rule out Hockenson being good right away, as he’s the best TE prospect in years... nor can we rule out Njoku having a good year with Baker taking leaps forward.

It’s an upside position but that doesn’t mean the players aren’t usable. It just means that having boom/bust TE is a common problem around the league so it doesn’t really put you at much of a disadvantage.

I’d rather snag one of those dudes late if that’s the difference between me having WR/RB I love and having to choose between backups / boom or bust risks for one of those spots every week.

I get that there’s a wide gap in points between the top TE and the other usable ones... but I legit feel like using an inconsistent WR3 or RB3 as your WR2 or RB2, who bombs and only scores 7 or fewer points half their games, creates a wide gap in points as well.

there is no way I would want to rely on old men Greg Olsen or Delanie Walker as my TE1

Eh. TE tends to be a position of relative longevity in the NFL. I could list off tons of receiving tight ends who were still steady targets in their lower / mid 30s.

I just don’t think having a strong TE1 is as important as having more than enough “good options” at RB / WR to start

Different philosophies for sure. My opinion would be different if I was seeing more teams with a top TE that I didn’t either hate their RB options or their WR options
