Also, it’s really encouraging to know that they worked in the same room together for this. MANIA was mostly done remotely from what I remember.

 

Mania was largely Pete and Patrick. Joe said in his book that he was not very involved with that album bc he wasn’t as into the overall direction. The songs he did bring in early for it were not used, so he decided to “shut up and play” rather than be combative over a couple extra parts here and there.

 

That’s what side projects are for.

maybe they owe him one now to be more involved (I say that selfishly because I want a band record like they used to do instead). Bring on the guitars.

 

my major hope is to see a single, good producer

I don’t really care for Mania, but it’s not necessarily bad just not really for me. I’d be very happy with a more guitar driven record. I also need to finally see these guys live in 2023

 

Lol. Mania is a solid album. Like yeah it’s disappointing as a selfish fan they’re not guitar based but at least they are still writing strong songs.

 

"bishops knife trick" is a top 10 FOB number, I will say that

 

Wilson is god tier.

if they had released the line “I’ll start wearing black when they make a darker color” in 2005 or 2007 it would have been the biggest thing from that time.

I find mania to be very inoffensive but also extremely forgettable

 

Mania definitely my favorite post hiatus album, I found it to be a huge comeback for them after not really caring about SRAR or ABAP.

 

Not to sound like a broken record but hope they bring back the guitars and reign in the electronic elements--it's not really why I listen to this band and everything post-hiatus just hasn't stuck for me at all.

I kind of hope they do both. Make songs that are throwbacks, make songs in their current style, and make songs that marry them together.

I feel like too many artists get afraid to paint with more than one brush. "It doesn't fit the album." Fuck that, do it anyway. Bands are always 100% more interesting when they don't stick to a script.
