It's really hard to believe that it's been almost three years since Mania came out. Wonder how long before we get a new album.
Weirdly, pop-punk is kind of back in style right now and the stadium rock sound they've been going for on the reunion albums is starting to sound a little dated so I wonder if they'd actually make something more in line with their old albums
They are Fall Out Boy so it wouldn't surprise me if they went a different direction than either of those sounds. I wouldn't mind a new EP with just some nice acoustic songs on it.
Been revisiting American Beauty/American Psycho a bunch, and I’m remembering how much I truly love this album front to back. At this point I think it’s surpassed SR&R for me as solidly my favorite of their three post-reunion albums.
Insanely fun analysis of Young and Menace in the first segment on this week’s switched on pop: ICYMI: The End Of Pop Music As We Know It: Fall Out Boy & Charli XCX — Switched on Pop — Overcast
Legitimately wonder if they’ve had any movement on one, or if they’ve really just taken a couple years off creatively. Still love MANIA as a whole, it has 4 of my all-time favorite FOB songs (Stay Frosty, Last of the Real Ones, Wilson, and Bishops Knife Trick). It bums me out that so many people seem to generally flat out hate MANIA.
Been revisiting TTTYG a lot lately. It's been the record I've given the least amount of love since then, but it's popping right now
I feel like MANIA would have been better received if the first single wasn't Young and Menace. I think people got turned off by the weirdness of that song and ended up not giving the album much of a chance. First single should have been Last of the Real Ones or Hold Me Tight imo
My tastes have definitely changed a lot. Been bumping Saves the Day and the new Tigers Jaw a lot lately, so this fits right in
Wilson is one of their best songs period. “I’ll stop wearing black when they make a darker color” would have killed in the AIM/MySpace era.
Mania has literally become my 2nd favorite record by them. Champion doesn't do much for me, but the rest of that record is incredible. Right behind Infinity.
The bridge of Bishops Knife Trick destroys me. “I’m still drifting through the sand, sand, sand, Looking for pieces of broken hourglass Try to get it all back, put it back together As if the time had never passed. I know I should walk away, know I should walk away But I just wanna let you break my brain And I CAN’T SEEM TO GET A GRIP, no No matter how I live with it.” Holy shit. Patrick’s inflection on “can’t seem to get a grip” literally sends shivers through my body. That fucking song, man. Absolute travesty that they didn’t play it live. Just like so many album cuts of FOB that they’ve completely skipped playing live.
