Save Rock and Roll is the only album I enjoyed from FOB since Infinty On High. If I could slap the song Centuries in the face...I totally would. I get so annoyed by that song haha.
TTTYG is probably only above the last two records for me, but my nostalgia for it is very strong. I'd take a more chilled out sounding song tomorrow, hell maybe even something semi acoustic. Would fit with the aesthetic so far.
Ohhh you're right, the post above by @SamLevi11 confused me and made me think it was the 24th for a minute haha. My bad!
Pains me to hear people smack TTYG around. Pop punk was everywhere, and I remember hearing Dead on Arrival on a random streaming site and just being floored within 30 seconds. Then running around with my cd player making people listen to them. Lyrically, passionately it's their best album to me. They're one of the few band I could listen to their first four albums straight through and be totally stoked, but they lost a little fire after, you know being successful and everything becoming way more pop-lyrically.
Yeah TTTYG is juvenile and from a lyrical standpoint it's a mess, but musically/vocally/emotionally it's still top tier pop punk. It's my favorite FOB release mostly for nostalgic reasons, but the songs definitely hold up imo. Obviously IOH and FAD are their best work, no question, but I think TTTYG is unfairly hated. It's a classic. Besides that, I'm very excited for the new song/album cycle. I'm hoping they go a totally different direction and push some boundaries. AB/AP disappointed me and I'm ready for something new.
I'm with you. I dig a bunch of songs from the last two, it just doesn't excite me in the way I expect Fall Out Boy to. I have no expectations really.
Meh, even putting lyrics aside I just don't get that sense from it. probably one of those albums where you had to be there when it came out
In high school TTTYG was the greatest thing ever for me. I literally used to tell people I wanted to be buried with it, I was that fucking guy. I can still go back and listen to it in the car and belt those songs out at the top of my lungs, but I can cast my nostalgia goggles aside enough to recognize it isn't anywhere near as brilliant as Infinity and Folie.
I'm sure I sound like a broken record but AB/AP is the most I've ever disliked an album from a band I once loved
Tried listening to IFOH a little while ago and just could not get into it. I used to love that album but I can't listen to anything before Folie anymore. I kind of feel like those albums haven't aged too well.
I think AB/AP is a fun album. I was only a casual fan until Infinity On High. After I heard that album I was hooked on this band. TTTYG isn't my favorite, but I do love FUTCT. In my mind their latest two albums aren't as strong as Infinity On High or Folie a Deux, but they are great in their own way. I think some people may just be taking FOB a little too seriously and not just experiencing the fun that their music is. Needless to say, I can't wait to hear what's next. There's not another band that gets me as excited for a new era as Fall Out Boy. I blame the hiatus.
