i have nothing but appreciation for what ABAP may mean to new fans, but GODDAMN if it isn't a boring album to me
I've always thought AB/AP is/was the closest we'll get to TTTYG. A lot of the songwriting reminds me of them in that era. I mean "Favorite Record" is essentially the Yang to the Yin of "Dead on Arrival"
I don't agree at all but I can see this. There are moments in the album where you can catch callbacks to previous releases, but it just didn't feel as strong to me as SRAR did. Like, after repeated listens, AB/AP just started to feel flat.
wait wait wait. so you call me out for negativity when i'm just joking with one of my friends about my all-time favorite band, but ryan makes a sexist remark for no reason and you're silent?
You did a perfectly fine job pointing out the problem to Ryan. Didn't think you needed my help. And I'm not even saying you're being negative. It's just a habit we all (myself included) got into on the old site that we can all do better than. Sorry if it came off aggressive. Wasn't the intent.
I like AP/AB a lot better than SRAR actually. I think the songs hold up better (Alone Together is one of their all time best tho) i'm listening to FOB's discog on shuffle rn and bummed i'll probably only ever get the chance to see them in arenas or ampitheaters. i would've loved to see them somewhere smaller. i don't know if i can vibe at some large arena show
and I'm sorry for getting aggresive back. I guess I just felt attacked because I thought it was pretty obvious I was just joking with a friend and not actually criticizing the band.
FAD is by far my favorite and the only album of theirs I can say I love, although I do enjoy the rest of the band's discography for the most part. I just think FAD is truly special. FAD > FUTCT > SR&R > AB/AP > IOH > TTTYG
humblebrag: i've never seen them in thos larger settings. warped 05; nintendo fusion (2k cap); and the secret tour for FAD which was a 500 cap room. That last one was magical.
