Fall Out Boy - So Much (For) Stardust (March 24,2023) Band • Page 91

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by iCarly Rae Jepsen, Jan 18, 2023.

  1. It reminds me of the same shtick as Pitchfork in 2003, where I often had to wonder if the writer even likes music half the time. I find that brand of criticism so utterly boring.

I just think it would be stronger with another set of eyes! I love this band and I want to love the record but I’m not there

I have fun listening to Ronald McDonald talk about music I don’t care very much about because I think he’s a pretty funny guy who at the very least seems to really understand how to listen to music. I care very little about his scores outside of his “not good” series which is usually a good laugh and that 3/10 reinforces that that will never change for me.

Like I’m not even a big Mania fan but to say that this album is way better than Mania and still only a 3/10 is just not meeting me where I’m at.

I will say my favorite YouTube reviewer is Justin Hawkins of the Darkness. He’s a rock star first and foremost but he also doesn’t take himself too seriously and you can tell he has fun with the channel.

Part of me thinks they only listen to half of the record, whether they love it or hate it and make up shit and use big words to sound smart. That’s Pitchfork for ya.

I’ve only watched his review of The 1975’s Part of the Band and it might literally be the only good YouTube music review/reaction I’ve ever seen. I keep telling myself to watch more of his stuff.

Maybe they just skip straight to the choruses.

I think Heaven, Iowa is decent but I feel like it's missing another 60 seconds of something.

Come around of Flu Game aside from the nananananas

Still really don't care for So Good Right Now. Climbed from a 3/5 to a 4/5 after a half dozen listens, only album I've been giving real repeat spins to from last week's onslaught of new releases.

pink seashell is goofy but I'd love it if it was part of a longer song.

thing about the two spoken-word songs is I really enjoy the instrumentals

I love them mostly, that’s why I think it would be great as part of a larger song. Like that as a bridge would be excellent.

If you're not feeling affects of Covid in society in 2023 then you should just know that it's still very, very present around us and impacting. I just generally agree that I don't know how 1-2 songs can ruin a full album that's not like super offensive/reflective of a band's moral character. Covid was a shared experience but to be honest a couple of Covid buzzwords don't stop me from just applying music to my own personal life and own lyrical interpretation which is generally what I do.

Press the skip button, shrug. I hate Reinventing the Wheel for some reason, Take This To Your Grave is Top 3 fav albums of all time.

Also, I'm defensive of this album, because it's f*cking awesome. I think bands should be known for their hits and not their misses.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

"I think I've been going through it, and I've been putting your name to it" is a great underappreciated line from this record

I’ve never heard of the needle drop.

Edit: nvm, I’ve seen memes about him. I’m very “offline” when it comes to YouTube. Only use it for music videos and show recaps before a new season

this whole paragraph about covid feels like bait but i’ll take it anyway. i think covid is kinda just part of society at this point, a sickness you can get much like any other and everyone’s kinds accepted it. for better or worse, it’s ended up like a lot of whacko republicans predicted: just being a part of our lives like any other sickness that can be deadly. the music industry and most of the others have been operating as normal for the last 1.5 years or so

that being said, songs about it feel a couple years too late. or “dated” already in a sense. like that second knives out movie: fine movie, but making it a “covid movie” felt unnecessary, forced, and didn’t really add much of anything to the overall story. that’s how it feels to hear a covid song in the year 2023

how it can ruin the whole album is up to that individual listener, but it’s not wrong or invalid to feel that way. that’s the fun part about music. we can all feel totally different things about a piece of music and no one is “right” or “wrong”

Still so weird to me that people think COVID references are outdated lol

Also those whacko republicans that “predicted” this didn’t predict shit. They practically encouraged hundreds of thousands of deaths that could have been prevented. They weren’t ever saying anything smart or accurate about the disease lol

It all still applies in 2023 ehh... and even then, I know some people might be tired of it, but you'll be able to get into a specific kind of narrative about it 20 years from now and it's still gonna be alright.

But I get it, I personally don't like hearing words like "instagram" in songs, though could that one small thing ruin it for me, I don't think so

COVID still being a thing in 2023 and quarantine in 2023 are very different things and it makes complete sense to me that someone could get behind the former and not the latter.

I love What a Time… but the lyrics are the worst part of that song. I can’t lie I wish Pete avoided those lyrics, not because they’re outdated but because that shit has become cliche and recycled to me. I think there are interesting new ways to write about loneliness in the midst of global tragedy, because I swear I’ve read “quarantine blues” on boomer Facebook statuses since 2020 and it didn’t sound good there either.

But the song is great. I just ignore the lyrics.

I don’t care what the lyrics are, as long as Patrick continues to grace us with those buttery smooth vocal lines, I’m happy.
