How could you possibly know it won’t change though? Like, sure, you may be right. But “the songs you grow to like never stick at first.”

That reply was just an honest polite question. Then I quoted Fall Out Boy. What is problematic about that one?

I also agree with the post that said "I got the quarantine blues" would have fit on Folie A Deux pretty easily so it doesn't really bother me other than in a vague PTSD way that will (hopefully) dissipate one day.

haha no worries! It’s not my style of consuming music but my wife will do similar behaviors so I get it. To be fair, she’ll eventually go back to those she skipped eventually. We all consume music differently.

As for pandemic songs: meh. I also am not “hoping” ever for a pandemic song only because usually they’re corny and still remind me of an awful time. This is def not as bad as let’s say Frank Turners and I’ll keep finding myself coming back to this one!

I guess I agree pandemic songs can come off as corny sometimes especially when they’re super on the nose but why would anybody expect artists to not try to incorporate this traumatic event we’ve all been going through these past several years into their work? That’s a very strange expectation imo

They also said they wrote that song before all this shit and just added that line to make it relevant

I don’t think anyone is expecting them not to or being critical of them for doing so. Some people are just explaining why they may have a slight distaste for them or might give them a pass

for sure! tell your wife she’s not alone, there’s more of us maniacs out there haha. i’ll make my way back to them for sure, i think i said to someone else usually i see folks talking about it and go huh maybe i missed something (threads like this, twitter, etc)

i agree there! there’s definitely more cringey pandemic songs and stuff. i would never tell an artist to not write about it, because it’s their art and they’re more than free to write about the things that matter to them and such. just like others are more than right to like it if they wish! it’s a touchy subject, i didn’t mean to add fuel to the fire in here or anything though. i get why folks would find it comforting and i also get why others like myself may want to skip them for now is all!

Really? That’s funny. I really need to watch the interviews they’ve done recently. I bet there’s a lot of good tidbits like that.

If you've watched basically any comedy act/special since 2020 you'd realize how fast they get old/annoying... like... we get it, we all went through it, talk about something else.

Just to be clear I don’t expect artists to NOT sing about it, I know it’s inevitable and fine if they want to. Anyone can write a song about anything they want especially on their first release since the pandemic. Just not the subject matter I’ll find myself gravitating to (even though I kinda like how FOB is doing it on these tracks!)

Not a song, but both intro's have been deleted and make it much better/easier to get through.

Fake Out and Heaven, Iowa is the best back to back combo on the album.

Whoever said So Good Right Now is what Panic! was trying for is spot on... listening to it right now and this 10000% sounds like it was written for them, but FOB pulls it off so good.

I’ve listened to this record like 5 more times now and wow… I’ve turned around on it HARD. I would say I love 3/4 of the record now.

I still think So Good Right Now and What A Time To Be Alive are their weakest tracks. Can’t get into those at all. I also think the reality bites bit as well as Pete’s poem on Baby Annihilation are lolz

… but the rest? Pretty damn good with the title track being the biggest stand out next to Flu Game.

This is much better than anything else they put out post-reunion by faaaaar. Gonna go to my local record store today to pick it up on vinyl. What a trip but it’s nice to actually like this band again.

FBR is mad if they don't push "Fake Out" onto playlists / make it a single this summer.

  22. Rowan5215

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

think I'm weird in that Flu Game is my least favourite on here, but it's a 7/10 on an album where everything else is higher. this thing is insanely consistent, it might be their most even front to back

also Muse is one of the best songs cowards

Fake Out has to be the next single. I want to hear that on every radio station all summer long.

I feel like I’ve seen quite a few people not being big on that one. You’re not alone. Personally, I really dig it.

  25. Uhhhh

Late to the thread today, but let's not have a pissing contest over who went through more trauma during the pandemic. Please. My original post about not loving the lyrics there doesn't have anything to do with writing about it (of course artists are going too, even I did), more so that I PERSONALLY don't love how direct words like "quarantine," etc. feel. It doesn't bother other people and that's okay too!
