Honestly I agree, I still find some enjoyment from the song here and then. It’s hard for any song to be bad with Patrick Stumps voice attached

Yeah, Champion is a great song. Centuries is fine. It is over hated in my opinion. It's certainly got old after the 5,000th time I heard it shoved down my throat somewhere on a college football commercial.

Decided to play thru Mania after reading this thread.

I take back what I said about Champion albums honestly good front to back

only one I’m not really feeling is Sunshine Riptide

Sunshine Riptide is the weakest for me as well, but I think it works in context.

    Cut tracks 6, 7, 8 & 9 and you have yourself a nice EP

Champion is one of their worst songs just for it being their laziest attempt at writing another jock jam in hopes of saving the album after scrapping what they had done.

Quoting this take of mine. I still feel this and that's why I think the song works in the context of the album.

If you think of the whole album as being of a piece, then this is that "fake triumphant" kind of song between the song about bargaining (Heaven's Gate) and the song about depression (Sunshine Riptide).

maybe i’ve benefitted from being in the UK and having never heard any of those ‘jock jam’ songs in public even once

i think ‘champion’ is great and in fact i like all of mania apart from ‘sunshine riptide’

you know what song i’ve never heard anyone talk about? ‘bob dylan’ from the second greatest hits album

i think it’s awesome and would’ve served mania or ab/ap well

    Yeah. I can’t defend Champion.

But I would still go to playing Mania before throwing on SRAR.

It was an AB/AP outtake. The chorus is kind of clunky but it's alright overall.

Is there any sort of news on a new record?

I wouldn’t expect anything until late this year at the earliest. I’m glad they’ve learned to take it easy.

Champion is alright, certainly better than Centuries although not wildly different. There are a bunch of songs across the 3 post-hiatus pre-Stardust albums that I find mostly interchangeable in terms of vibe, vocal delivery, half-tempo choruses etc. Way more so than on the 3 albums that preceded the break.

Wasn't aware Immortals had haters, definitely one of my faves from that record. To me it's a lot more melodically interesting & lyrically focused, (not to mention, much less annoying) than "Centuries," although I still like both.

"Champion" is clearly just a transparent attempt to emulate the success they had with "Centuries" but at least it's better than when other bands tried to copy "Centuries" (does anyone remember the Sleeping With Sirens song "Legends"? That was rough lol)

Immortals is the best of the three jock jams on the record. Centuries was massive for a reason, and Champion is just totally unnecessary.

Does Twin skeletons count as a jock jam? Cause that one hits

Not a jock jam at all but it does indeed hit. I hope they play it live someday but I get how vocally demanding it could be.
