Save Rock and Roll has aged really poorly for me. Only a few songs I'd really want to listen to these days.

I've soured a little on that one too but I still love about half of the songs on there, and there's only one song that I actively dislike.

yeah i think ab/ap has aged worse. it's got more of a sort of cartoon-y feel to it.

  7. Save Rock & Roll saw them go into a stadium pop-rockish direction and it worked quite well.

They expanded on it to an extreme degree with AB/AP and it hurts to listen at times. Too many shouty hooks, too many samples, and it’s way too tied to mainstream pop of that time that they lost some of their personality along the way imo. “Cartoon-y” is apt, it sounds so dumbed down overall.

For some reason, I often see more backlash for MANIA but I much prefer that one. The experiments don’t always land but at least it was more diverse.

Mania is honestly a solid pop/rock record. It’s not exactly what I crave from this band, but there’s enough to enjoy that I will still spin it on occasion.

Caffeine Cold is a top tier post reunion track the rest isn’t essential

i agree with everything you’ve said, but much like any FOB record, the highs are still quite high

  16. Everyone seem to hate the title track but it's one of my favorites on that one. It sounds so goofy but they make it work. Also love "Irresistible", the version with Demi Lovato even more, and "Fourth Of July".

I like Irresistible and love the title track. Basic by FOB standards but the emotion works for me (as does Elton John's appearance - who else in the scene could/would have him as a guest app?).

Elton John is on Save Rock And Roll, not AB/AP.

On the topic of AB/AP, Jet Pack Blues is one of my favorite post hiatus songs. Add Favorite Record to that list too.

    Not newbie, I think

Fourth of July is the banger of all bangers and no one's telling me any different.

    Just a friendly reminder

I loved AB/AP year of release when i was 20 and still riding the high of their reunion but time has really not been kind to it. The production and mixing front to back is sickeningly trendy 2015 pop and overcompressed to all shit. Its also imo the worst Fall Out Boy lyrically with the worst, but ironically most popular single ever in "Centuries". MANIA is pretty bad too but at least they really went for it and a song like "Wilson" is a much more successful attempt creatively at a mainstream pop jam than they'd ever done.

Sorry if you like that album but I had something to get off my chest lol. Been thinking way too hard about FOB as of late.

This album best since hiatus unequivocally. FOB made an album that sounded like FOB while still looking forward and that's all you can ask for really.

The run of Jet Pack Blues/Novocaine/Fourth of July on AB/AP is still so good

I have a friend who says AB/AP is his favorite FOB album but he also despises Mania
Always kinda baffles me I don’t think they’re that different sonically

god, it's hard to know where to begin with mania

but i'll start by saying that i really think if young and menace didn't exist we'd be having a lot of different conversations about the whole album
