Patrick fucking kills it on every song, holy shit. Not sure how I feel about Sunshine Riptide just yet but otherwise I'm really into this. Stay Frosty is some opener, damn. UN, DEUX, RÉSISTANCE! (at least I think that's what that line is)
The most intriguing thing about this album is that the vocals sound un-tuned and and largely un-edited to me. Very interesting choice as it's unlike any other pop record of the last 20 years in that regard.
This cover sticker for the CD lists HMTOD, Church, and and TLOTRO as the feature tracks. Guess the other two will be official singles later.
The run of Wilson, Church, and Heaven’s Gate might actually be my favorite on the album. All 3 of those rule.
Mini-rant time, but I just cannot for the life of me understand people who think this band fell off a cliff in terms of quality since the hiatus. They’ve always been a pop band, and they’re making some of their best pop songs ever. On sites like RateYourMusic, their post-hiatus albums have absurdly low average ratings... but I feel like this band has always been over-hated by the general music-listening public anyway.
Me either. I remember getting IOH and Folie on their respective release days, but even though I really liked Fall Out Boy then, the release of these last three albums were way more significant for me. They've all been that "I NEED THIS NOW" feeling. That's only intensified each album.
I feel like the "charm" factor or whatever was low on SRAR and near nonexistent on Abap, don't really know how to explain it better but they just feel different tonally.
I like this album so much it hurts. I loved the last two.. and yet this one feels like what I wanted those albums to sound like. Listening to Bishop's Knife Trick on the way to work this morning made me feel like I was 15 listening to I've Got a Dark Alley for the first time. I'm sure more coherent thoughts will come. This band just keeps getting better.
I feel like Stay Frosty is what they wanted to do with Champion. If they had released something like that instead, this cycle could be totally different.
After one listen I’m pretty sure in saying this is the best of the post-hiatus albums. Gotta re-listen to SRAR to see how it holds up. Patrick fucking snaps all over this thing.
I really like the first 6 songs and then it falls off for me a bit. Champion is better than I remember and I can't figure out if I like the last song. Def not into Menace or Sunshine
People have already edited Burna Boy out of Sunshine Riptide and... I don't know, that seems kind of racist to me. But I always err on the side of caution. IDK, just kind of grosses me out.
if Burna Boy weren't in sunshine riptide the idea of this band doing a dancehall tune would be pretty racist in itself
People did the same thing with Courtney's part of Rat-a-tat. edit: not that there aren't FOB fans who want a whitemaleethnostate, but if it's a feature like that, I could see it being reasonable. haven't heard the new track yet
