Been on a discography kick with these guys for the last couple days and realized today that Mania's been out for longer than the time between FAD and SRAR.

 

I didn't think there was a way for me to be less interested in Joker, but adding Lady Gaga and making it a musical proves me wrong

 

Supposedly an excerpt from Joe’s book confirming that they’re working on a more guitar heavy album.

 

Good news, but kind of interesting that Andy and now Joe have both in a way expressed dissatisfaction with the last couple albums

 

Maybe after SRAR it felt like they could've gone in two directions, so with AB/AP and Mania they went with the less guitar-heavy one, and now they'll explore the other?

 

I'm sorry everyone, but AB/AP is the best post-reunion album.

 

Makes sense considering the pop punk revival. Might as well have the kings do what they do

AB/AP > SR&R > MANIA which I know is not a popular opinion here lol

 

It's because they've been garbage.

 

The post-hiatus albums are better than all the pre-hiatus albums except Folie

 

The only ones I don't return to as often are TTTYG, IOH, and ABAP, the rest I listen to about equally

 

Does anyone else visualize charts of bands' discographies?

 

What do you mean by this? Like popularity, colors??

 

Like the trajectory of their sound. I kind of see post-hiatus as branching off from somewhere between FUTCT and IOH rather than a logical progression from FAD

so like,

TTTYG = > FUTCT => IOH => FAD
FUTCT => SRAR => ABAP => Mania
SRAR => next, guitar-heavy album

 

That makes sense! Not sure what type of graph would be best for visualizing it, maybe a circular graph that shows distributions between all of the different types of genres they incorporate with each album, like TTYG would be Post-hardcore, pop punk, punk, FAD would be soul, funk, pop punk, etc.

I can see that. I’d draw a more direct line between FAD and MANIA though - they feel like spiritual successors of each era

 

i revisited IOH the other day and this is not correct

 

FUCT is untouchable. The worst song on that record is better than all but three other songs in their catalog.

See that one's easier to visualize, although I've taken a more metaphorical approach: FUTCT on top of a tree (pun very much intended) and everything else in a trash bin next to it.

 

I e said it before but AB/AP is very similar in its songwriting to TTTYG. Have a pop-punk band cover it and you’d hear it too.

 

I will never understand how anyone has AB/AP as anything but by far the worst FOB album
