I'm sorry but you really do live in a different world with hay trucks and rodeos ,also Kacey Musgraves free song title
Lol I def do. You can also tell it's a different world cause there were no alternate ways to get into the city. Only in this dumpster fire is there one way in and one way out!!
But it is sad when arenas get ugly corporate names. We have the Moda Center named after an insurance company which is so not as cute as the Rose Garden which is what it was before and the other week I got mail from moda and got excited cause I thought I must've ordered tickets to something and it was just my dental insurance statement ew.
The worst is when the sponsor changes though and you’re just supposed to change years of calling it one thing and call it some new even stupider name.
The arena in DC was the Verizon Center for as long as I remember, enough that sometimes I forgot that it was even the phone company lol. They just recently changed it to Capital One Arena and I haven't really gotten used to it, though some people like it because the Washington Capitals play there lol
This still happens in UK; we have a range of venues called Academy. Used to be sponsored by Carling (alcohol) and now O2 (mobile phone). It's been nearly 10years but still catch myself saying Carling Academy.
All the arenas too. The MEN in Manchester (named after the newspaper), the Metro Radio on Newcastle, the First Direct in Leeds.
There's the Metropolis in Montreal that is now sponsored by Telus and called MTelus and it's such a stupid name. Everybody still says Metropolis.
We have a stadium here that was call the Citrus Bowl and then it changed to Camping World Stadium. Also, an amphitheater in Tampa was called the 1800-ASK-GARY Amphitheater for a while, not much better today as the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater, haha. Those are the worst I can think of right now.
Sandstone amphitheater/ Verizon Wireless amphitheater/ Capital Federal Park at Sandstone/ Cricket Wireless Amphitheater/ Providence Medical Center Amphitheater. All one place lol.
Coors/Cricket Wireless/ Sleep Train/ Mattress Firm All same place here in Chula Vista, CA aka San Diego. And I know I’m forgetting one maybe two other names. Place has been open for maybe 20 years.
World Music Theatre / New World Music Theatre / Tweeter Center / First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre / Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre Tinley Park, IL. All since 1990.
I remember when they were building the staples center I was like “is that the actual name?” I think it was the first corporate sponsored venue in LA. Maybe the blockbuster pavilion in San Bernardino was first but not sure. Anyway, since then, the corporation is absolutley not what I think of when someone mentioned staples center, we just know what and where it is. I honestly don’t think some companies realize how ubiquitous their name becomes when they do that.
I’m a tad bit embarrassed to admit just how long it took me to realize Staples was the sponsor of Staples Center. Honestly never even thought about it until one day it clicked
Coral Sky Amphitheatre/Mars Music/Sound Advice/Cruzan/Perfect Vodka/Coral Sky (again) It's still the Cruzan Amphitheatre to me.
