I think I agree here. I don't like Young and Menace, but I at least appreciate that they're stepping outside of their comfort zone, and I'd listen more. "Champion" is just kind of...boring. Granted I think it hits the mark of "cheesy rock anthem for sports game fodder" more than "Centuries" does, but that doesn't say much
Back when Folie got delayed like a month I was devastated. I'm really just indifferent right now. Which might be a good reason for the delay I guess.
Damn, I'm really bummed I won't be getting new FOB til next year but happier if it means it won't sound like the chorus to Y&M. Almost forgot this was a month away.
Young and Menace was absolute dogshit and Champion was slightly more tolerable, so no, hopes are not high that this will be any good. Not to mention, American Beauty/American Psycho was purely awful. I didn't think it would be possible for Fall Out Boy to make an album even worse than that, so it remains TBD. Champion is better than Centuries at least, even though they both have the same vibe, the only difference being Centuries is one of the worst Fall Out Boy songs ever. Then again, I thought Save Rock and Roll would be a new low for them, because that album sucked too other than Alone Together. So they just keep getting worse and worse with every other album? Is that how it's going to go? How low can they even go? There has to be a point where it's just so low that anything else would be better. Are we at that point yet? I don't know. All I know is that they broke up after their 2nd-best album and any hopes of them making good music again is distant and far. They don't even need to go full on pop punk, because Folie wasn't. They just need to make music that I don't hate.
Imagine going back in and thinking "time to double down with shit posting" and then actually including something like "they need to make music I don't hate" — like one of the most popular and successful bands in the last decade needs to or should listen to a random internet dude.
Well, they're free to make whatever dogshit they like to make - that's what they've done for the last 5 years anyways. I'm saying this from a point of frustration. I want Fall Out Boy to make music I like. I don't want them to release crap. They're not gonna listen to me, they're not even going to see this fucking post - but yes, they need to make music I don't hate - otherwise, what's the point of them still making music then? Their stuff is worth negative wins above replacement at this point.
Well, yeah, that's how opinions work. If you disagree with me, fine, I don't expect everyone to share my opinions If you don't like the Yankees as a team, then fine, call them shit. You can't call their performance shit, though, because that's backed up with objective statistics.
You think I'm gonna want to leave the site just because you disagree with my opinions? I've been on here for a month already and I have no intentions on leaving anytime soon
Eight years is the timeframe you want to use for calling a team shit? Ok, I guess, but then ~85% of teams would be shit then
Go to their shows and see how well received their latest two albums are. They're doing fine, and those massive crowds don't think it's dog shit
Well it depends if those fans got into them post-breakup or pre-breakup. Opinions are going to differ. On aggregate sites like Sputnikmusic and RYM, the last two albums were trashed. I don't even like RYM's rating system.
I've been listening to them since my sister was following them in the livejournal days and I actually went with her to the Dance Dance video shoot when they needed extras, new albums have been great.
I really don't understand thinking there's no point in a band making music if they're not making music that I personally like. That's like the definition of narcissism.
It's not narcissism, narcissism involves overabundant self-love/cockiness. My point is, bands serve no value to me when they're making music that I don't like. I want bands to have value to me. If they make music I don't like but other people do - I don't care, I don't derive any enjoyment from it, it's meaningless to me. Good for them if they like it, but I'm not them, so it means zero to me.
That's not the only definition of narcissism. Narcissism can also entail the inability to distinguish your own opinions from the value of external objects which is pretty much exactly what's going on here.
