Best outcome really. I am still thrilled this is happening at all. Plus it gives Green Day time to write a new record.
The rumor I heard being kicked around is their latest album was just to appease their final album to the label, and they already have a much better album in the can for their own label or a new label. Is it true? Who knows, but it totally sounds like something they'd do, especially when you listen to their new album – it's actually a ton of fun, but it doesn't really sound like a traditional Green Day album.
I just don't think you hire Butch Walker to make a contract-fulfilling record – especially when they self-produced their last one.
I actually like Father of All... more than any individual record since American Idiot... It's really fun and to me is highly re-playable.
Hope this could mean new music on the FOB front too since this summer it looks like it would have been just be supporting Greatest Hits.
I totally get that too… (and I enjoyed this new record more than anything they've released post-American Idiot), but who knows. I do think we'll get new music sooner than later.
Weezer's label is basically delaying their new album an entire year. Mind boggling, especially if it leaks before then.
Green Day is still on Warner, it seems like they renegotiated their contract after FOAM came out. Hopefully that means they now have more freedom to put music out as often as they want. Butch Walker is already getting ready to work on the follow up to FOAM though, so I think we'll almost definitely have more music by the time Hella Mega actually happens.
I would feel so weird about this too but the lineup is so bonkers to me still that I don't even think about it
Yeah, in an interview a few weeks ago he says he's getting ready start working on the next Green Day album. There's a thread about it on GDC.
