Just telling you guys, give blackbear a chance live. Saw him a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised
Hahahahaha. For some reason Jaden Smith opening isn't that surprising. It seems like something Pete Wentz would def have his hand in. I look forward to see him just because I think it'll be hilarious and most likely a better set than Blackbear.
I have always loved Fall Out Boy shows because they have always brought some of my favorite bands out on tour. Hawthorne Heights, All-American Rejects. Cobra Starship, The Academy Is, +44 Hey Monday, Cobra Starship, All Time Low Twenty One Pilots, Panic! at the Disco New Politics, Paramore. Jaden Smith???? Blackbear??? WTF man Then again I said that about Wiz Khalifa and now I love Wiz Khalifa...
It is weird but at the same time makes sense. The direction Fall Out Boy has taken. I think Blackbear appears the same type of younger crowd that FOB would or does appeal too. I think that he is God awful but he's pretty popular and on FBR. And I'm pretty sure that Jaden is friends with Pete and it feels like something he had a big say in. You also have to remember that a lot of those bands you mentioned (Cobra, Paramore, P!ATD, AAR, TWP, ATL, +44) where either not at the height of their popularity and / or really fit in the current trend / version of Fall Out Boy at that time.
Still so many tickets available for the Denver show. Thought I'd check a couple others and there's still floor seats available for both NY and LA. I'm not saying by October/November that won't be the case but compared to so many other similar arena tours going on recently, this is moving much slower. I'm not trying to detract from them at all, I do think it it's an interesting observation though.
Just heard Jaden Smith's songs. Very boring in my opinion. He sounds like a monotone Future on that Batman song.
I'm stoked to see Jaden honestly, he put out a mixtape a few years ago that I was obsessed with. His current direction isn't especially exciting but the kid's talented. Better than blackbear for sure.
Really dating myself but there was the 2005 Nintendo Fusion Tour they headlined with The Starting Line, Motion City Soundtrack, Boys Night Out and Panic At The Disco. Also their 2004 tour headliner had Anberlin opening. Weirdly, the first time I ever saw them was when they opened (!) for Mest in the winter of 2004.
I'm mad too...I was supposed to go to that show but some friends screwed me over and gave my ticket away. So I wasn't able to see FOB for the first time until Black Clouds & Underdogs.
I was already a bit old for that scene (at the elder age of 21 at that point) but still loved that music. Shout out to anyone who attended the Mest/Fall Out Boy/Matchbook Romance/Dynamite Boi tour in winter 2004.
NFT was one of the best shows I've ever been to. I had never had such an immediate love and obsession with a band like seeing P!ATD that night. Plus I freaked out a group of parents by losing it to BNO and MCS which is one of my favorite memories to this day.
Patrick just announced that the album is pushed back until 1/19, they pushed it back almost four months. Man, this thing has to be really bad. Maybe they postponed the album because it's so bad they are worried that people won't go see them on tour after it comes out.
I'm kind of regretting buying tickets now that the openers have been announced and after seeing this news.
I was just thinking this morning as Y&M came up on shuffle that the album release was just over a month away and in my gut I didn't feel like it was going to be ready. I was super sketched out to begin with the album cycle launching but they immediately said the album wasn't even finished. January is such a long time. But I trust that it was the best decision. Maybe Y&M will get reworked or dropped.
I wonder what this means for the Chicago show as well as the entire tour. I know they said it's still happening but I can't imagine them doing all this promo for an album that won't be out yet...
Terrible idea to do an arena tour if there's no new product to promote but, if it's selling well, guess it can't hurt.
A lot of bands do tour big shows without any new stuff to promote often. But this whole cycle has been weird so far. Like, are they going to do an arena tour basically hit everywhere, album drops and tour again?
I don't think they need anything to be promoting anything in order to sell out arena tours anymore, but I see your point.
That's true but Fall Out Boy is the kind of band that needs an "always on" marketing approach. They are still targeting the youth audience (12-24) and if you're not constantly visible, people tend to forget about you. That's why acts like Drake are constantly releasing things, they need to keep their audience engaged. Fall Out Boy's last release was in 2015 which, while not a lifetime ago, can be a world's difference for someone who was 15 and now 17/18.
thats a fair point. I don't know many people my age (28) going to see them purely out of nostalgia, the way some of us will go to see TBS or another band like that.
I'm one of those weirdos (turning 34 in November). I've dropped a lot of scene bands in the past 3-4 years simply because I've just seen them too much. I've enjoyed Fall Out Boy 2.0 so am planning to attend the Barclays Center date. I assume that ticket sales are fine otherwise they would have scrapped this too. On the plus side, that means more setlist slots for older songs.
