Hey, I said in an earlier comment that the best part about being critical is that everyone can have their opinion. Like it or hate it - I don't care. You seem to have an issue with any opinion that doesn't align with yours and that's your problem, not mine.
I agree. Maybe it's because I'm a tad hangry at the moment but so much of this thread comes off as pretentious. Again, I'm saying that about all sides of the discussion.
Lol. I literally explained four posts in a row that I can appreciate how people have other opinions and like this song. Sigh.
I wonder if Joe and Andy just as involved with the new records as they were when the reunion first happened with SRAR... Like I remember Joe being in a ton of interviews excited about all the new sounds he gets to experiment with back then, but I don't remember hearing much from him about AB/AP. I'm sure they're happy or they wouldn't be in the band, obviously, just curious on the band dynamic these days with how much they've changed from each record to the next.
When they started back up for SRNR one of the conditions was that they wouldn't be just the Pat and Pete show. They don't do this unless everyone is happy.
The very basis of some arguments are pretentious. Someone says they don't like it, or it doesn't suit them, and immediately the response is "would you rather them make TTTYG five times?" Which, by the way, is just as bad as the "this will sound dated soon" argument which is on the complete other side of the spectrum. Anyway, it's wasted time really. The basis of any good productive discussion is willingness to see the other side. I can totally get how some people love this song. It's just not for me. I think it's terrible.
Can you not at least see why your comments, and some of the others led to that though? When you say something like "Ive really just soured on this general movement which everyone attributes to "growth" and "change" of bands" — and follow that up with posts about staying "within" a sound, followed by a variety of posters asking for TTTYG-era music again, can you see why the response is ... "why would you rather they keep making the same album"? When the complaints are mostly related to something new not sounding like past albums that the poster liked more, I think that's when people respond about that ...
To me it just has that chaotic weird crazy quality that makes me love follie soooo much (one of my top 5 favorite albums ever).
Yes, but the key to that is the variety of posters weren't myself. Ultimately this kind of divide is bound to happen as bands continue to shift and change. I'm sure it's happened before many times. Just the same way as I can see people liking this song, i'm sure people can see how others would dislike it. It's just guaranteed to happen.
This song sounds like a EDM rave song. I personally don't like that type of music but a shit load of people do. Good tactic on their part.
It's more electronic/dubstep, which is enough for me to pull chute. I think the more constructive dissenters in this thread want progress from their bands, they just lament that the progress FOB has chosen seems to be closer to the electronic/dubstep/pop/whateveryouwannacallit end of the spectrum than another direction they'd prefer. Gimme a post-rock, shoe-gaze, alt, or really-any-other-genre Fall Out Boy record before the stuff they've put out recently. Tangent - Future on Paramore's latest was a dope post-rock song. Really liked that record.
Man, I'm just really excited to have a new FOB song to listen to and I am super into it. As long as they're making what they wanna make, I'm here for it.
