Sounding so good. Really bummed I'm gonna miss them playing in Allentown. Hum is playing the same day in NYC and I can't get to either one!
Well I gave it a third listen because it was you who said that. Seemed the same to me. The same almost-about-to-break-into-a-good-song feeling. But the first three minutes ultimately bore me, so when it starts to pick up the intensity and that riff kicks in, it has a sense of momentousness like it's paying off something that was a bit better than it actually was.
I adore this band more than almost any other. I'm doing everything in my power to will myself into vibing with the new shit. In my heart, I'm with JM95 so far... except for the title track they posted by mistake, which ripped. None of the 3 singles have excited me. Skyline shows a flash of real promise in the final section, only to cut off after 20 seconds. Just thinking back to how astonishingly great and creative Headstand was as the lead single for WTD puts it into perspective.
Idk I thought the first two singles kicked a lot of ass. Haven’t listened to the Haley one yet but I’m holding off for Friday.
First full listen is a relief given my thoughts on the first 2 singles. Most of the rest is more melodic, interesting, and at times spacey. More of an 80s influence than their usual, but not to excess. Solid State is an all timer. Just wish this were 11 or 12 tracks.
Ugh, they're fighting again. https://www.reddit.com/r/failure/comments/1st0ps4/failure_on_location_lost_the_90s_altrock_pioneers/
What is your interpretation of the words below? “There was a lot of turmoil and life changes. Going through the process of this record, I wouldn’t say that we were the most cohesive, interpersonally, with each other. It felt like things were ripping apart a bit,” Edwards admits. “The documentary had a strange effect on me, and I think I withdrew. If I had been close to the center of Failure for a while, it took me more into the outskirts.”
There is a difference between them not being the best of friends constantly surrounding each other and them fighting
If I take everything they said literally, I'm a little bummed that the doc might've rocked the boat for Greg. I mean, I watched it and loved it, but I'd 50x rather have more new music with Greg heavily involved in the writing.
On top of that, Greg was noncommittal about the future. So while I can't say I share your optimism, I do hope you're right.
Again, the band 30 years in can break up and not have it be the result of fights. Just seems like you’re wanting it to be something it isn’t based on a clickbait headline of a reddit post vs. what’s actually in the article itself
I can't find the link but in another interview Ken said he would be satisfied if this were the last album as he's pretty happy with their output. On the other hand he also said they want to keep doing this so long as it's fun, and between albums they always ask each other if they want to do it again, and it'll be another year before they ask that question.
I was always responding to the article. 1. Greg said the doc his bandmate directed caused him to check out. 2. Greg said they didn't get along during the making of the new record. 3. Greg said it could be their last record. Based on those points, I don't think my pessimism was unreasonable.
They're not a full time band anymore anyway, so I don't see why it's a big deal. If this really is their last album I'm fine with that. I didn't even expect this one to happen
