The implication is go back to basics after Fast 11 when they inevitably soft reboot it. No way are they going smaller when they are trying to do the infinity war/endgame model for the next 2 movies
I think they need to tread lightly with time travel. That route is difficult for this franchise since Paul Walker is dead.
You are at the end of the series. Bring in time travel, dinosaurs, Roman riding a nuclear warhead like the end of Dr. Strangelove. Who cares anymore.
The point is stripping the movies from what makes them enjoyable (being so bad they’re absurd and therefore worth watching) would be silly. They have become basically superhuman to the point they commented on it in F9. To reject that would likely lose fans as there would nothing special about a basic racing crime film. Turn the absurd up to 11 and let’s fucking go.
Seriously. They can do whatever they want to at this point. They went to space. What sense would it make to lower the stakes of things?
Being absurd isn’t what only makes them enjoyable. Films 1 and 5 are the best of the franchise. 8 and 9 have seen some of the harshest reactions. While all are enjoyable for a theatrical experience, only film 7 is rewatchable when looking at films 6 - 9 It would be fun to see how crazy it gets, but let’s not play dumb and act like how crazy the films are is a measurement to how much people like them.
Don’t confuse anecdotal for wider reactions across the internet. Fans have not taken a liking to the last 2 films. The general consensus is that Fast Five is the best and I’d argue that’s closer to the first 4 films than the following 4 films.
7 has the night box office and it has absurd shit. I remember being angry at how absurd it was. I haven’t seen it since it came out, but I recall 2 moments of their near superhero ability. When Vin and the girl he was with (I think?) rolled like a thousand times down a hill and Vin walks out like nothing happened. And the whole jumping the car between buildings. I mean, come on. Fate is 3rd highest and they upped the absurd. 6 is 2, but the only thing I remember is Gal Gadot dying. The absurd stuff is memorable. I only remember the first movie because it’s just Point Break.
Highest box office but not highest fan approval. No one is out here putting 8 or 9 anywhere near the top of their lists when ranking the films. 7 was absurd but it carried emotional weight for Walker which pleased a lot of fans and allowed for something that the franchise had not really tried prior. I believe getting back to basics would be best for the franchise because that’s where a lot of fans enjoyed when first getting into the franchise. They don’t have to make numerous “back to basic” films but just one as a nice refresher couldn’t hurt.
Uhhh I love all these movies and the last 2 rule. Some stupid ass posts in this thread. 5 is the best but is absolutely unbelievable. They fucking drive a safe through a city. Cmon.
People didn’t like 8 because they had to shoot around Vin and the Rock being unable to be in scenes together. Not because it was too over-the-top. Also the audience score for 5 on RT is 83%, the audience score for 9 is 82%.
