That’s kind of my hopes for it too, that it gives up-and-coming directors a chance to show off what they can do. It’s not like it’s really connected to Ash or Sam Raimi’s style any more.
I actually genuinely really like the idea of turning this into almost an anthology series where all of the movies share the same basic premise but do their own thing with it
The people I'm supposed to go with are dragging their feet on getting tickets for this weekend and I am...very close to rolling solo, lol can't miss Jackass AND this in theaters
Seeing this is 4DX tonight. If I’m not coated in fake blood by the end, I’ll just bring my own and do it.
This was so fucking good. Understands the balance of brutality and humor way more than I think either of the past two have. Might be my favorite deadites since the OG, possibly ever. They’re all so antagonizing! And as suspected, so many fun easter eggs and nods to past entries. This could have easily been a shock jock heap of trash with a Disco Inferno needle drop, instead it genuinely respects the franchise. Make sure to stay until the very end of the credits. There is a mid credit scene, and then a post credit scene. Also, for anyone this may matter to, trigger warning for (tapping this will not reveal the spoilers below) animal harm Anyway, damn. The opening scene tying back to the Rise opening scene was awesome. Always thought it was weird that never went anywhere, did not see the long game at all. I don’t fully understand the return of Ellie, but the expanding lore of Evil Dead sounds exciting to me. Though I do think that will take the wind out of anyone’s sails that were hoping for a true anthology series going forward. The shot where grandma attacks from behind as the camera shifts away from the mirror was sick. Loved the mom dragging Alice up the side of the bathtub as well. And obviously the oner from the first teaser Felt like my audience didn’t totally get that the funeral home attendant trying to roll out the casket was supposed to be funny, but by the time grandma got tied to the chairlift, everyone was on board. Alice trying to figure out which dagger was the right one also got some big laughs I love that Sébastien got to flaunt multiple really fun French needle drops I was not super sold on the Terminator looking ass CGI final boss, but it was worth it for the skull crush
Sweet mother of mercy this movie is the meanest, bleakest thing I’ve ever seen. One moment of gore specifically is probably the most fucked up thing I’ve ever seen. I gagged describing it to a friend after the screening.
Thought this was pretty rad, and gross. Couple nitpicks, I feel like there’s a lot of bad ADR, and the color is totally washed out for the majority of it (seems intentional becuase the last 10 minutes or so it changes for the better). the plot of deadites trying to find a dagger is pretty dumb but oh well, the series is full of silly stuff. also hear me out….tina gets the hottest deadite ever award
I know I’m in the minority on this, but I just felt like this was some “Hills Have Eyes” remake kind of nonsense with an “Evil Dead” skin. There’s no character to root for, the abuse storyline is the laziest plotting imaginable for a hook to the hero of the story, the action scenes are dark, blurry and poorly-shot and the color palette for this makes “Supergirl” look it’s bursting with color. I feel like the twist with the “Evil Dead” movies is their mixture of graphic violence with pitch-black humor and I didn’t really find the funny with this one. That will happen with its sort-of anthology approach to this with new directors, but just about nothing with this worked for me.
I thought this was okay until the back half. Overlong by at least 15 minutes and with not much to say they certainly belabored the point well past the point of me caring. The entire final third was just repetitive and boring and the cgi (much like the end of the last one) took me way out of it. I love how nasty it was and the French needle drops were cool - as was some of the filming. It was certainly meaner but needed to be leaner.
