Ideas of weight and health are just so distorted. I was a latch key kid so frozen processed foods were normalized to me. Kool aid with cups of sugar added, top ramen, soda, kraft, etc things that kids could make were what we ate. When suddenly my mom would start commenting on my weight I was so hurt and confused because I was just eating what I was fed and felt like I did something wrong. It took me so long to undo what I knew about nutrition and health. And it's still a struggle with all the addictive stuff in foods and the emotional component to eating. And yeah I workout and take the time to do that but I barely find the time or energy and I am a single woman with fewer responsibilities than most. When people take a nasty shaming approach to weight-loss idk what they expect to happen. Like wow people should eat healthy and exercise?? Never thought to do that before!!! It's like when people tell me I should just get up and get out of the house for my depression like... Wow I never thought to do that before! Obv it sounds easy on paper but never rly is. And God forbid someone is actually happy and content at their size and doesn't wanna lose any weight. Just look at all the "plus sized" models who get called irresponsible for being on magazine covers. Not even mentioning how I used to eat hot garbage all the time in college yet nobody said a word to me while my plus sized and proud friends got bs all the time if they dared to eat the same thing and often time they ate healthier than me smh.

Lol I didn't even read the article yet I just got fired up on my platform sry!!

    I really do think it's 90% food..
my FedEx driver..you should see how fast this girl moves, she's been doing it for 20 years runs in and out of the house and she's still overweight. She's obviously exercises everyday, but probably eats horrible.

  3. Yeah, this is why I said I think some people missed the point of the article entirely.

Don’t take it seriously if you don’t want; I don’t really care. Thankfully it seems most people did, and understand the underlying point. What you’ve quoted isn’t saying what you’ve reduced it to in your final sentence. But, I think you know that.

Anyway @marissalg literally went to school to study nutrition so maybe you should all just listen to her ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What I got from the article was the stigma attached to being overweight/obese and treating these people like they must inherently be horrible, lazy human beings when that is not always the case.

I just described an alternative. Provide a second device for a person. It's basically a large authenticator at that point.

What alternative option did they provide you?

I agree. It is a lot of work and that's my point. I do not mean to come off critical or holier than thou but I've put in HOURS reading about this topic and failing for 10 years to the point that I feel confident in my ability to manage my eating and exercise routine. There were plenty of times that I thought it was helpless and undid all of my progress. The only person it impacted was me. Most people do not put that amount of work into anything. Honestly, most of the information I've gotten has been from a 12 dollar book or free articles online.

Also, just because people are criticizing an article doesn't mean that we missed the point. I agree that we should be nicer to everyone and that there are times when people are obese because of something out of their control. I also agree that you should be confident in who you are regardless of your weight or what society as a whole thinks is acceptable. But to compare obesity to Parkinson is just offensive. They didn't say it's just as bad as Parkinson or the other diseases mentioned but why even bring it up? My girlfriends dad has Parkinson's and that is 100% out of his control and it has impacted their family more than you can imagine.

While I admire your dedication, that sounds like the schedule of someone who's got no wife or kids ;-)
