yeah, and a lot of them are acting in a way that seriously runs counter to the kindness arguably at the heart of the film. shit's embarrassing

  10. How embarrassing that it's gotten so bad one of the Daniels actually felt the need to speak up in the first place. It baffles me that people can love a film and at the same time completely miss what it stands for. No, you're not supposed to idolize Tyler Durden. Idiots.

Even if you love the movie, I don’t understand how you could not see why it might turn some people off.

Some people just feel like if there is any criticism thrown at something they love, it’s an attack on them as a person as well. Whether it’s a movie, a musician, a politician, a sports team whatever.

I adore this film but get why it’s not for some. When it comes to film criticism, it can be more interesting to hear the thoughts of people you disagree with - it’s how we grow and and even get better at understanding why we like the thing in the first place. Everyone needs to just relax.

I can definitely see how this appeals to the most annoying Rick and Morty fans though.

I hope this does well at the Oscars all around but if this doesn't win for costume design and hair/makeup at the very least then like what are we even doing?

My initial impression when I saw this in theaters was that I really liked it, but my enthusiasm has waned a little bit the further I get from it. The final 30-40 minutes are really exhausting (the stair sequence is unbearably drug out), but the performances are really good. Probably make my top 20, it’ll be close.

So I was thinking about this movie's influences. Obviously HK cinema and The Wachowskis played a big part, but am I the only one that gleaned kind of a Terry Gilliam influence with the absurdism and some of the themes?

There is definitely some heavy Brazil influence in there, but I caught some 12 Monkeys Influence in some parts too.

Finally saw this. Not really my thing, which I honestly expected but still wanted to try it out. Pretty exhausting film IMO. The first half got some good laughs out of me though.

That’s fair. I suppose it’s intended that way since it’s literally in the title, but I felt I was ready for the end to come throughout the last half-hour during the dramatic turn. I’m also not a fan of action or really even a big fan of sci-fi, so I knew coming in that I’d have reservations, but this seemed to transcend genre and I know a lot of people who love it… I guess the maximalism and excessiveness turned me off after a certain point and kept me from taking it seriously by the end—it felt like an overlong Rick and Morty episode that’s not as deep as it thinks.
