First time I saw these guys live was definitely a top 4 all time show for me. The energy was relentless and at the end the brought the crowd on stage for "Indian Giver". It was fucking awesome.
I've seen them with all three drummers, 5 different bassists, and never not once did I ever catch a slip up or a lackluster performance. ETiD is the end all be all of live thrash.
Looking back now going to the release party for Low Teens and hearing it live in full is pretty special
Yeah, once DEP is out, its really Norma Jean and ETID as the torchbearers of those high quality metal acts
Just realized I put The Chariot, but they've been broken up for a while now, haha. Yeah, Every Time I Die holds the torch once DEP are gone :(
Yea Dillinger played before Etid on Sunday. And they killed it. Ben smashed his guitar up in the first song it was nuts. But I have to say Etid had the better collective performance and crowd. Etid was Only band to have a mosh pit in a 2-day metal festival.
I am a retired mawsher except for when I see ETID these days. I'm in the pit the whole time for those crazy fuckers. Probably seen em up to like 12 times now.
Starting to think TBD is my favorite ETID record, if only because Keith covers a lot of topics like the music industry, religion, war, and if I'm reading "Buffalo Gals" right a hint of societal expectations in women
Tbh i rarely know what the songs are about, but the phrasing he uses is always great TBD has always been my favorite though
I know Depressionista is about the music industry and Leatherneck is about war and specifically the Iraq war or something like that if I had to guess. Leatherneck is slang for soldier I believe. Keith also goes against capitalism and satires the government a lot which is cool
Gonna revisit these guys' discography this upcoming week, it's been way too long since I've heard some of these albums in full! What's a good order to go in, or is chronological the way to go?
Keith's lyrics are always really great as far as heavy music honestly, so much irony and layered meaning. Usually it takes me a while to really dig into what's being said once I've calmed down headbanging for a bit haha
Hot take as someone who hasn't listened to these albums in a while and has zero technical production/mixing knowledge: Low Teens might be their best-sounding album to me. The production feels very "rich" and massive-sounding, for lack of a better term.
Decided to do Low Teens first then go chronological after, ending back at Low Teens again :P God DAMN this album is amazing and I didn't listen in full nearly enough when it dropped.
Low Teens pretty easily has the best production, GP has hands down the worst. The others have appropriate production for the sounds theyre going for (Ex Lives is a bit more polished, TBD is a lot grittier sound, NJA has a rougher punk sound, etc)
The Big Dirty was always my favorite pretty much as soon as it came out, but From Parts Unknown took that spot after a few listens. To me, it's head and shoulders above their other albums in every aspect: writing, music, production, lyrics, etc... It's absolutely ferocious, unrelenting, and just crushes everything. It's up there with my favorite metal albums ever.
