I’m in the same boat. Low Teens is technically at the same or better level as FPU, but it just doesn’t hit as hard for me. Knowing their legacy, seeing them live, and how fantastic they are to their roots earns them a “I’ll listen (repeatedly) to their new stuff” pass, til like 2070, since they clearly have not one sign of slowing down
The two times I saw them were during the Ex Lives era. I was very into them as a live band then. I’ll have to dive into Low Teens as I’ve only ever done a tertiary listen of it.
It’s absolutely incredible. Read the lyrics with the songs, and look into the background into the writing of some of the songs. Don’t want to give any spoilers, but they’re absolutely gut-wrenching
FPU may be my favorite too. I wish they played more than Decaying and Thirst live on a regular basis.
I hope they do another record with Kurt Ballou, my biggest gripe with low teens was the production just wasn’t for me. And FPU is probably my favorite of their catalogue.
I dig Low Teens quite a bit, depending on the day it can be my favorite. I feel like they changed it up a bit and it’s refreshing and awesome AF.
I gotta say I dislike FPU AND Low Teens production lol. Ex Lives and Big Dirty are the best sounding ETID records for me.
The Big Dirty is their best sounding record in my opinion. I still don’t love the snare sound on From Parts Unknown.
Drum sound is def the biggest strike against FPU. On the other hand everything sounds chonky as hell on Low Teens. Theres a 2010s deathcore sound to it and I keep expecting to hear an 808 bass drop during one of the breakdowns. Def a Will Putney produced record. These two new tracks dial it back a bit and they sound fantastic. Songwriting-wise both albums are definitely their best. Idiot melts faces.
Meat Wave live at Lincoln Hall on Thursday and this on Saturday live streams are coming in hot for the holidays.
Holy Shit. Going to stage dive off my couch and hope my cat catches me just from that 17 second clip.
FPU will always have a special place in my heart as it's how I finally got into these guys. Low Teens was my first "ah shit new ETID record let's gooooo" experience and it was a bloody wonderful one. Been so good diving into their discography over the years and the new songs have been Also JESUS HOLD ME that clip sounds like I'm gonna end up breaking my head on the floor
FPU's drums give me a headache, especially the snare. Love Kurt Ballou but his production doesn't always 100% work with every band he works for.
