Just quickly stopping by because I heard both songs and I'm already ready to claim them as some of the best ones they've ever written. How does this band keep getting better still late into the game? Unrelated, but I can't stop alternate thinking about the weird fills or unorthodox choices Daniel would've brought if he was still in the band. His performance all across Low Teens remains an all time favorite. But I got no complaints about the new drummer, to be clear!
with everything going on in the world right now, there is nothing “insane” about not being able to handle music/lyrics like this. my anxiety has been spazzing out so much the last two weeks that i haven’t been able to listen yet, bc i know anything heavy would set me off. try having some empathy instead of being a dork with a full diaper.
I agree. Goose rules, but Daniel is one of my favorite heavy drummers for how much of a signature sound he has.
WOW I was not ready for this, but god damn it feels so good to hear new ETID. I won't even bother trying to add to the superlatives that have already been shared in this thread, just agreed entirely across the board. One legitimate question though - not to say that this band gets NO respect, because I know they have loads of diehard fans and a back catalog deeper than most heavy bands.... but is there any particular reason why they seem to not get much attention/hype/love from critics and music publications? Is it because they can't really be categorized into one specific style of heavy music? Just feels like the people that are "converted" actually GET ETID, and cannot say enough good things about the band - but I don't really see or read about them much of anywhere else, and they've been at it for almost 20 damn years. Not a qualm, just a curiosity.
Goose pulls some fills off that are great but get outshined in these tracks. I don’t know if stylistically I enjoyed anyone more than Legs though.
https://www.stereogum.com/2110058/every-time-i-die-a-colossal-wreck-desperate-pleasure/music/ Tom Breihan of Stereogum mentioned this in his post covering the new songs.
Wow - before I even read this - S'Gum was going to be one of the sites I mentioned ! And their new website design is so hard to navigate I totally missed this article. Thanks for sharing, let's see what Tom had to say.
Literally their first post EVER about them. At least he mentions that they "probably don't talk about them enough". Cool to see at least SOME coverage on an "indie" publication. All of the other articles I found are just copy paste from the press release.
Tom Breihan has been doing an awesome job with the hardcore/punk coverage on Stereogum. You can tell he genuinely loves this shit, rather than doing a bunch of cosplay because bands like Code Orange, Power Trip, Turnstile, etc. are hip right now
I don't agree with ALL of Tom's takes of course, but damn if he doesn't have a wide and varied taste in music!
Yea not to harp on this too much but I love bleak ass depressingly real lyrics, Touche Amore is another this year that I live for, but there's a reason it's bleak and depressing! Not everyone is built to get bashed over the head with depressing shit left and right and that's perfectly fine, especially with this hell hole of a year
is it really insane that someone might not be able to mentally handle hearing something? is it really insane? idk if you were just trying to be funny but this is a garbage post.
Definitely a dumb thing to say to someone in 2020. Like we’re all going through different hardships right now. If someone doesn’t feel comfortable with certain topics/subject matter let them be.
The quotable lyrics in these are just endless..... Despairing is painless and peace is a lie You should try loving man while fucking hating mankind It rips you apart. Those just fucking roll off the tongue like poetry. It's incredible.
Jokes aside, Keith has always blown me away lyrically. I think the only other vocalist I absolutely love lyrically as much as Keith is Wes Eisold.
