First of all, they referred to what you were doing as creepy (reading comprehension) and secondly, calling someone an "armchair psychiatrist" is not nearly as mean-spirited as the way you mocked them. I'm asking you to please drop this because no one wants it and there are zero reasons to continue the back and forth in this thread.
Just gonna log my ETID listening this week here. So far: Radical (x2) From Parts Unknown Ex Lives Hey I have an idea that usually goes over well on these forums?! Let's rank the discography again!
I don’t think he’s a villain per se, I just don’t think he’s getting the … right kind of help if that makes sense? sorry man I really didn’t mean to start shit with you.
From Parts Unknown is definitely really good, and revisiting it for the first time in a while, I actually only really REMEMBERED the 2-3 songs that made it on a few of my Spotify playlists. Definitely was in a different spot in '14 listening-wise, which would explain that. I also think that the Kurt Ballou production really suited that record well. It's not nearly as immediate as some of their other stuff, but rather comes off as abrasive and jarring in a good way. All that being said, I'd probably put it in the slightly lower tier of their catalog (for me) - but can totally understand it being a fave for others.
I mean I’m just going to end it on this because this has suddenly become extremely triggering for me: those exact same words have been to said to me/about me with regards to my recovery because other peoples idea of what my recovery should look like (which they have NO business dictating) didnt line up with the reality of what my recovery actually looks like. you are a fan on a computer screen millions of miles removed from the actual situation at hand, you have absolutely no right to decide what kind of help is the right kind of help for Keith. no one does but especially not you. with that, I have to leave this thread.
I've listened to NJA today and liked it way more than I remember, and I'm on to NJA through Wanderlust and I am surprised by how much I dig it. I think something happened to me during Low Teens and Radical to just like ETID's style more. That's pretty cool.
the last thing I will say at this point (and I apologize in advance for how long-winded this is) is that, hypothetically, if I was in a band with my brother for most of my life (which in itself I am sure causes some sort of tension) and during that time I was also in the throes of addiction and also enduring abuse or trauma or just generally an unhealthy dynamic between that brother (also likely in part feeding into said addiction) and it went either unaddressed or improperly addressed for years… when I finally come to terms with my addictions and mental health issues and try to confront them head-on, and in that process probably re-contextualizing and seeing a lot of that prior trauma/abuse/whatever for what it was, I am probably going to try and also confront the person on the other end of that head on if I have a close (in this case both business AND familial) relationship with them. if that person then pushes back and tries to deflect or deny or negate the impact of such things, I am probably no longer going to be willing to move forward with them in my life. and if that person and everyone around them then frames it like I am going off the rails and just crazy and destructive and have no basis for my actions, then I am probably going to feel compelled to use phrases like “my truth” when what I perceive to be THE truth is categorically treated as false. I am also probably going to be pissed off and over it to the point where a speaking tour talking shit on those ppl probably would feel like an appealing form of release. is it the most mature response? no, I wouldn’t say that. but if the picture Keith paints of what was happening behind the scenes between him and Jordan has any truth to it, it then makes his trajectory over the past year seem a lot less erratic and more understandable imo. again, this isn’t me taking Keith’s side, I am just as skeptical of what he says at this point as I am what the others are saying (maybe even more so since it’s like 5:1 here). he could be entirely bullshitting and projecting everything onto them. but the fact is that he also could very well be speaking some truth, and I think that possibility alone is enough for me not to … well, say some of the things I have seen others say about Keith here and elsewhere, based on what we currently know.
The more that comes out, the sadder it gets. It just sucks, a lot. Regardless of where the truth lies, you can tell there's just immense pain on both sides.
at least we're (currently) doing better than the ETID subreddit, where people are *checks notes* speculating whether Keith is secretly addicted to kratom
Just did a run to Ex Lives - enjoyed it a bit more than FPU. It retains more of that "southern rock swagger" from the late 00s albums that I love so much. I'd put it in the top half of their catalog, personally.
ETID is my all time favorite band. I’ve been listening to them since the Hot Damn! days and it’s unfortunate it went down this way but I’m honestly not that upset about it. They had a hell of a run, a GOAT discography, and were one of the best live bands to ever hit the stage. Unbelievable career, impact and longevity. RIP ETID
Hey guys, here’s one. Maybe this will provide a little pleasant levity to the thread. Back in July of 2018, I created a really stupid tweet where I combined Toby Keith and Keith Buckley’s faces together (by way of a stupid face mash app) and applied it to a list of songs that I hypothetically made up (putting country music-ish twists on actual ETID song titles) for a hypothetical greatest hits album advertisement for…Toby Keith Buckley. It didn’t make a lot of sense but I was proud of it and thought it would be taken in a very non-serious way, maybe generating some laughs if he saw it. Welp it backfired, he did see it and then promptly blocked me. It honestly caught me by surprise and bummed me way out since I didn’t mean anything by it and hoped it would be a harmless joke. Anyway, here’s the tweet and I haven’t been able to see any of Keith’s tweets since haha.
Can we please stop blaming a woman for the problems of men? It was gross when people blamed Yoko and it’s gross now.
Keith was 100% responsible for his actions, including any part he's allowed Angie to take in band matters or his online presence. Her intentions and actions are irrelevant
If you watch the Get Back documentary, while Yoko is always present, she barely says anything and is involved in 0 aspects of the band (and John’s choices) so I’m not sure I understand either.
this is incredibly dumb, yoko did nothing wrong and angie likely didn’t either it isn’t that hard to read the conflicting stories and realize that everyone involved is probably not being entirely truthful here. i don’t doubt jordan probably has been abusive to his brother in the past and probably has differing viewpoints politically that conflict with keith’s (btw keith is 100% correct on this one if that’s the case lol). i also don’t doubt that keith probably berated the new manager and became difficult for the band to be around. we probably aren’t ever going to get the full story, nor do we deserve to
