hope he gets well soon. puzzling situation to say the least are they cancelling the next three shows?
I imagine they’ll play as a band with guest vocals. Maybe Josh and the guy from Candy. Same as when Keith had to leave for his daughter’s birth.
He's taken mental health breaks before, his sister died in 2017: he literally talked about it during a LT Era interview. He didn't kidnap his child, he discussed what he could publicly and it sounded odd (as admitted by him). Bei g interested in the psychic and spiritual world is also nothing new for him. I understand that some of this stuff is odd to a lot of people but he's on an ENORMOUSLY new and scary path with sobriety and life changes
I agree with you, but let me put it this way: the last years Keith has had would put a strain on any man’s psyche, and even to me, egos just a fan, there have been worrying sings that something is wrong with him. him actually taking some time off is good news.
Pure speculation on my end, but I can imagine touring and the old habits that come with that are a challenge while being sober now. I remember multiple times seeing ETID years ago where Keith said, "come drink with us at the bar next door after the show!" This tour is also a lot of tiny venues that are pretty much dive bars with lots of alcohol around... that has to be tough.
really weird for me to log onto this website as someone who suffers from substance use disorder and see people judging someone who also suffers from it having no idea what it’s like to live through it! sucks big time actually!
Agreed. I take mental health issues and sobriety (mine included) very seriously and a Keith's online presence and community was a huge positive for me over 2020/2021. I was fortunate enough over this last year to not only be a part of Keith's twitch community and patreon, but was allowed to moderate in some instances and take part in some zoom calls/conversations with him and his perspective on a lot of things really connected the dots with who we've been listening to all these years. After hearing those old songs through that lens it all makes sense and you can see how much that man was hurting inside. Take alcoholism, add toxic relationships and personal struggles (like the incredibly stressful and traumatic process of the birth of his daughter), which would put a strain on a lot of relationships anyway, then you come away with some pretty serious anguish and mental health obstacles.
Seems like people in this thread are supportive of him taking time off and trying to be non-judgmental? But apologies if my last post was out of line I guess all that needs to be said is I hope Keith gets the help and care he needs. Any speculation and comments beyond that isn't warranted. It's just tempting because he's remarkably honest in his lyrics, interviews, twitch streams, etc.
I’m not gonna call out specific people and posts but judgemental words and phrases have been used over the last few pages whether intentional or not, even just calling a certain situation “weird” is passing judgement on it, and as I said it makes me uncomfortable and I have no problem sharing that. I just got back out of treatment for the sixth time in the last year on Monday so excuse me if I’m being hyper sensitive to the issue
people can think a situation is different and/or weird while being fully supportive of the person going through the situation.
Have it on good authority that the next 3 shows are canceled and will not have a guest vocalist. Official announcement should be soon though
Respect the decision fully and hope he gets what he needs over the next week. Would have been gutted if TID didn't happen
Is that from Angie’s discord or something different? Supposed to drive to Richmond tonight and want to know for sure. Thanks for the info either way!
It’s way outside of what’s possible but the thought of Scogin filling in for a full ETID set is insane
It’s all good I just think the way we discuss people who do suffer from this has a long way to go and a lot of times we don’t even realize what we’re doing is passing judgement because the disease of addiction manifests itself in a multitude of ways for everyone who suffers and when you’re living in it it basically consumes every aspect of your life and who you are and people who haven’t been through it themselves have no idea what that feels like or looks like so I do think it’s important to consider how it’s talked about. Just my opinion on the matter though, take it or leave it
100% I hate saying this because ETID is top-tier for me, one of my absolute favorite bands of all time. They've been a part of my life since 2002, but I can see the possibility that ETID as a full-blown touring entity may be nearing an end. I know Keith hinted at where the band might have headed had he not gotten a handle on sobriety and relationship struggles, but I feel like on the other side of it now things could potentially create a greater struggle with keeping his mental health and sobriety in order. That's such a tough atmosphere to stay neut
Also, '68 just dropped off these shows because of Covid positive tests. Makes sense why scogin isn't jumping up there
