I had mine shipped to my parent’s house bc we were in the last month of our lease when it went up. I feel like my mom would have said something if it arrived. I also don’t recall seeing a shipping notice go out for them. Totally forgot about that item.
Giving a thoughtful review to an album doesn't equate to defending a shitty or problematic person. He literally acknowledged the fact that Kanye is a shitty person
I've been listening to ETID since Hot Damn came out and I've been subscribed to a Keith on twitch since the piss stream and I can't fully articulate how absurd it is to see ETID fans talk about being ready to jump ship because he gave his personal thoughts on a polarizing album (by a polarizing artist) all while acknowledging the fact that the artist is a shitty, mean person. Keith has been sober for over 9 months, he's gotten out of a toxic relationship situation, he and Jordan practice meditation people say it sounds like they're wackos?
All I said was that it bummed me out a bit while moving directly on to how much I wanna listen to the album and I got a "glad I don't care about tweets" so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, seems nobody can really win here lol
The review wasn’t thoughtful though? It was the opposite of thoughtful because it tried to divorce art and artist for someone that used a rapist as part of his art, on purpose. I look up to Keith and adore his band. But there’s a valid criticism in my opinion. I believe there are good ways to engage in discussion of problematic artists. And good ways to understand your relationship to art made by monsters. I don’t think Twitter is ever going to be the platform to do that, and at the end of the day I don’t really care what he tweeted and it’s easy enough to ignore. But I don’t think attacking those raising an eye or pointing out the flaws are the ones to turn the cannons on here.
Yeah those tweets were weird and worth a side-eye. They won’t lessen my enjoyment of the band or excitement for the new record but they were definitely odd.
the tweets weren’t that weird or worth a side eye imo but it doesn’t matter I guess. it’s only worth a side eye if you think separating art from artist is a worth a side eye and as I said the other day I used to but now....I don’t think it is at all and am able to separate art from artist a ton myself and would never fault someone who does the same. but maybe y’all side eye me now, I know some who do
I see your point and I'm not attacking anyone, just stating that I think it’s absurd to see (and it’s not just here, but in several ETID communities I’m seeing the same type of stuff). Even before the Kanye tweets, people taking things in their (especially Keith and Jordan’s) personal lives and coupling them with tweets to make it sound like they’re oddballs for saying some things that are a little more introspective and thoughtful than the typical metalcore veteran. I agree that the tweets are easy enough to ignore, and that Twitter will never be the place to have the conversations ( I think twitch has even become a better arena, in Keith’s case, for those kinds of long-winded conversations) but I also think nobody will win in those scenarios because there’s a never ending conversation about separating art from artists and how you can review a piece of work from someone who acts or portrays themselves a certain way
My post was not at you, it was at the person who literally said the tweets made them less excited which is extremely weird to me. But it’s whatever people can feel however they feel, and I can feel however I feel about it!
Yeah, people can feel however about it all just like anything else. I don't agree with everything that any single person tweets, or says, but I think there is a degree to which you can separate the art from the artist, in terms of reviewing the art. Just like how the independent gave donda a zero without even listening to the album because of the Manson stuff. That's virtue signaling horseshit, and this is coming from a staunch liberal
To be fair, the weirdest part of it to me was that when the rest of my timeline was trashing the album Keith Buckley of all people was one of the only ones I saw genuinely going to bat for it, lol
Well, one good solution is my preferred method: never tweet. Solves the never can be answered or argued in a decent way by just never engaging with the masses in that way. I think when it comes to ETID, and I haven’t checked their follower count, but my general feeling on those (including myself to a small degree) with a “platform” is that there’s a bit of responsibility that comes with how you use it. Someone peddling fake cures for diseases or pushing conspiracy theories that threaten lives and democracy as a whole … they’re on one level that we understand and know are abusing the platform in real harmful ways. I don’t think artists talking about other artists, or fans talking about other artists is the same. And while I respect various artists that have promoted or talked about liking a band on social media and then they were told why that artist was problematic they apologized and removed it; I know that’s an outlier, and I’d never expect that from most. Just like I don’t think anyone should be expected not to discuss, even problematic, art in a critical lens. I think it would be healthier if we could talk about this stuff in a more open way that was free of judgment for whatever personal decisions we make. My specific thoughts on the tweets were that they ignored that the abusive people were specifically used *in the art* and to ignore and not engage with that, I think leads to surface level critical thinking. My opinion is he’s also off about the quality of the art itself, but I do not think it’s possible to look at Kanye and remove the platforming of the worst of the worst as not just an extension of but *a part of* the art in question. To remove it means you’re not actually talking about the art, you’re bifurcating for convenience or conscience, or whatever reason it may be. I can only speak for myself, and I’m one that finds all the Kanye Discourse exhausting and wish we’d all just ignore him. But if one chooses to engage in the discussion around Kanye as he parades around and uses in his art toxic abusive assholes, I find any argument that side steps it … unconvincing. And if you’re gonna co-sign “genius amazing next level art” I think the argument should be stronger. In the end this is a lot of text about something I care little about (specifically) but have thought more about (broadly) than any sane person should because of my own critical lens, mini-platform, and relationship with art that is problematic and in some cases rightfully described as downright monstrous. I think there could be a world where that’s discussed with kindness and care, but I have high doubts anywhere on the internet is that place.
All very, very good points. And I'm with you: I didn't find the album (or his last few) to be amazing or genius level, but I respectes Keith's thoughts on it (mainly the points he was making) but more importantly I appreciated the fact that he continued, in ongoing dialog, to state that he thought the person in question was trash. I think I was partially venting about people (mostly outside of this site) that continue to act like he and his brother have gone off the deep end and the Kanye thing seemed to add more fuel to the fire. But I'm with you, I wish we could all just ignore Kanye and his whole 'deal' haha
This is mostly shinfo but I still kind of laugh when I hear tid described as southern rock. I get the cowbell parts and some of the classic rock influenced riffs, but that doesn’t make it southern rock. Nothing in the influences they talk about are southern rock. They are from Buffalo lol. It doesn’t really matter in the end, but it’s something I’ve found odd all of these years since about the Gutter days when I first started seeing it.
