They get better with every outing even if personal preference lies with some earlier stuff for their absolute best, hard to deny their evident improvement every album; I put this right behind NJA
I've almost given up trying to decide what my favorite ETID record is. I could easily give the distinction to Low Teens, FPU, NJA, or Big Dirty at this point. This band is so good it's baffling.
Haha, true. I'm astounded when people praise it so much. I like/love 5 tracks, but the rest is mediocre to me. Their worst album.
What, it's pretty musch their most diverse and creative release. I don't get what's mediocre about it haha
Low Teens is definitely my favourite. I don't see how anyone could think their worst is not Last Night In Town tbh.
If we aren't including the EP, than Last Night In Town or Gutter is my least favorite. Still really enjoy both records though.
This record is certainly very well done and diverse but the production takes me, personally, out of it. On that front I think NJA or Ex Lives is the best "sounding" record. Both sound very full
I don't really have studio grade gear, so I probably miss a lot of that aspect of records. That said, I would expect NJA to be one of their better sounding records as Steve Evetts is a prolific producer. The guy that did Ex-Lives worked with some pretty polished rock bands. I would expect them get good "full" sounding records. Will Putney that did Low Teens seems to be pretty new (comparatively speaking) and entrenched in that metalcore sound. So, you are most likely accurate in your suggestion.
Yeah I mean I'm no studio engineer but Low Teens (big and booming) and FPU (rawer, more punk) fall on two ends of the spectrum, and NJA and ExLives fall right in the middle to me. Joe Barressi (ExLives) did QOTSA and Tool records, and he did a fantastic job
I actually really like the sound of FPU. Kurt Ballou is a different kind of monster haha. That record fits in with the likes of Trap Them and whatnot. Ultimately, I like the different sounds/styles on NJA and Low Teens. There is some breathing and variation going on those records where Ex-Lives and FPU can sort of blend together at times.
Yeah NJA is super underrated. Kurt Ballou is a master producer but I've always felt it needed a little more oomph, esp with the guitars
I almost blew my car speakers listening to this today. So damn good. At this point, it's my favorite ETID record.
I agree with this. NJA and Low Teens have my favorite production. I like Steve Evetts's production on The Big Dirty but I think he improved on it with NJA. It's just grade-A riff after grade-A riff. I love everything about that track.
The opening riff in TCHAS and first breakdown riff in Just as Real are my already my favorite riffs in their catalogue. With all the riffs combined in Just as Real, it's probably my favorite ETID song now just from a guitar-related standpoint.
Yeah, I feel like they use more of those Dimebag/Zakk Wylde pinch harmonics on their guitar parts on Low Teens. I know they've been there in the past, but this record definitely has more of them.
This is undoubtly their best guitar album. The guitarists must have been touched by a light when they wrote those riffs
I think they definitely benefitted by branching out of Drop D for the first time. Just as Real, Coin, Fear and Trembling, and Awful Lot all have great riffs and are either in Drop C or Drop A
