I wasn't going to go to the Beartooth/ETID run, but I may have to go for this now. I just wish they were headlining.
This. I was holding out for a headliner but now I'm desperate to hear some of these songs live. It's too hard to past up plus they're playing on Halloween here (NYC) so not a bad way to spend my Halloween night.
only about halfway thru and loving this, It Remembers totally reminds me of like an old Marilyn Manson song, and not in a bad way. FUCK....Petal...right in the feels... EDIT just finished...god damn...going to have to let that all soak in for a bit and give it a few listens. i agree with everyone saying its probably the most cohesive album they have done. i dig and can totally hear all the 90s influences they are talking about, from nirvana to deftones. Awesome album...
Yeah, I hear ya. I would be going to the Cleveland date, but with it being next month, part of me is wondering if I just gamble on passing and make a trek to Buffalo for the holiday shows. That option sounds pretty tempting haha.
After my first listen, I'm underwhelmed. I'd say about half of these songs are great like the singles, Petal (probably the best song), and Just as Real... I'm pretty much 'meh' on the rest of it. It feels like they took a step back in the aggressiveness that FPU had, which is a shame because the heavier and more aggressive ETID is the better to me and this feels like they want to be a rock and roll band now and not a heavy band. Obviously I'm going to keep listening and might end up liking it more, but I'm disappointed.
I think this album is most similar to New Junk after one listen through. And no surprise that I really like it a lot because NJA is probably my favorite album of theirs. This sounded like NJA but turned up a few notches. It's way too early for me to predict where this will land, but I like this more than Ex Lives and FPU after this first listen. This album is really really good (circumstances in which it was written aside).
i think i'll end up still considering FPU as their best in the long run but this is definitely in line for #2. petal destroys me.
I think you will definitely end up liking it more. I was in the same boat as you thinking that the intensity of FPU was what made it their best, and I still think that, but once I listened to this for what it is rather than wanting that same intensity for every song, I realized how great it was. At the moment its probably tied with FPU for the number one spot
I think we can all agree Fear and Trembling is the best opening track they've ever written. Followed very closely by Underwater Bimbos.
Given that they're my 2 favorite ETID albums, I'm partial to "No Son of Mine" and "Romeo A Go Go" as openers, but they honestly don't have a bad one (and from HD onward, I'd say they're all great).
Two Summers if a fun song, but it's definitely my least favorite from the record. I had come to terms with it, until I heard the bonus tracks. I still can't figure out why it made the cut over Nothing Visible; Ocean Empty. But really my gripe with it is only that I feel it doesn't fit the record, not necessarily that it's a bad song. Awful Lot really is amazing!
Map Change is the best song on the album and a top 5 ETID song Like shit I never thought they could write a closer that tops pornogratherapy but damn they did the damn thing
