I think before "Map Change" it was the only "true" closer they had. The somewhat abrupt ending paired with the line "So the picture will not be finished" is brilliant. And I love the line "My job here is done. You're fucking welcome."
I think the riff in Just As Real is my favourite riff I've heard all year, just such a bloody earworm
I kind of agree with you. Map change "feels" like the closure to a incredibly cohesive album. Low Teens has its peaks and valleys, and that song kind of encapsulates all of that. Low Teens is probably going to be my favorite ETID album, but I cannot ignore how good "Idiot" is as a closer on FPU. That whole album is relentless from front to back, and that song, I feel, is the apex of their career.
My all time favorite (I haven't spent enough time with Low Teens to rank it #1 yet, but it is really really really good) is The Big Dirty. If I had to rank them now... The Big Dirty, Low Teens, Ex Lives, NJA, FPU=Gutter Phenomenon, Hot Damn (the vocals just sound so bad it's hard to listen to, I wish they would rerecord it with Keith's current vocal styles), LNiT My favorite song on Low Teens is far and away Petal. It's devastating and incredibly dark.
Not that any opinions matter but I remember Ex Lives losing me a bit after the high of NJA. FPU was pretty good but didn't blow me away in the way that this one is. Timing is always important too, I was just completely ready for this album.
I agree completely. I've mentioned before that the timing of Ex Lives was very wrong for me, but Low Teens came at a perfect time.
Ex-Lives turned me off of ETID in general for a while. I don't know if it was timing or what, but I didn't start liking it until after From Parts Unknown came out. I'd still rank Ex-Lives towards the bottom.
I always considered The Big Dirty to be one of my least favorites by the band but I'm not so sure anymore. I just put it on while working on some homework and loved it. Kind of late on it, but my ranking would probably look like this: From Parts Unknown/Low Teens* Ex-Lives Hot Damn! New Junk Aesthetic/The Big Dirty Gutter Phenomenon Last Night In Town I still feel a little weird about calling Low Teens my favorite so quickly, but I know it's at the very least in the top 3.
I agree on feeling weird about Low Teens. For the past 13 years, I didnt think they, or any band for that matter, could write an album that I liked more than Hot Damn. Hot Damn has been my favorite record for almost half my life, and the majority of my life where I seriously listened to music. It influenced the music I wrote, school assignments, and my life in general. But now, ETID put together something that took all that I love about them as a band, and takes it to the next level. They have always been consistently awesome, but they raised the bar with LT.
Still waiting for my preorder to hear Low Teens. I can't wait! I am trying to hold out from the leak but I don't think I am going to make it.
Nothing has gripped me like Last Night In Town and Hot Damn! did when they first came out. Nothing since has had the same impact.
Yea those two albums had a great impact for me, even got a Godspeed Us to Sea tattoo to go for it. Gutter came out my senior year of high school so that was basically our go to album all year. Every release after that are amazing but I haven't had an ETID album hit me like Hot Damn!/Gutter till now. This album just front to back is a gnarly tune one after another.
I too have a Godspeed Us to Sea tattoo lol. And I am getting a "cult" tattoo to celebrate the release of Low Teens!
Low Teens FPU Ex-Lives Big Dirty NJA HD GP LNIT Almost release order. Also, I really like Two Summers now. Especially the back half. I kept skipping it but I listened to it in full the other day and its like I discovered another song on the album haha.
Hop on a treadmill, throw Low Teens on, and you'll lose that weight in no time at all! I currently need to lose 20 more lbs to hit my goal weight. We are in it together!
I remember once exercising on an elliptical and I was jamming out to Dillinger Escape Plan and I got a little too crazy and almost knocked the whole thing over and broke my leg, haha
