Beggars or Vheissu, but I'm not hugely enamored with Thrice. I like those two substantially more than their other albums though
Yeah, if the version I have is 128 I can't even imagine how good the HQ version will be. Although I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that it was just mislabeled and it actually is CD quality, which I definitely can believe.
I only found out about this album a few days ago, so I've kind of missed out on all the hype (but therefore aren't influenced by it) and this is a serious album of the year contender for me. Map Change is such a good end. I assure you...that HEEEEEELL IS NOOOOOOT A MYTHHHHHH
Sitting down with lyrics in front of me last night definitely helped solidify my love of this record. Per usual with Keith, theres a lot to parse through and decipher, but there are also so many lines that are profound and meaningful in a very straightforward way. I just want to get home and put this on again.
I'm so ready to blast this on my way to work on Friday. You all have me so excited! Sounds like this might be their best record.
As a fan who actually bought Hot Damn on release day, this is the best album ETID has ever put out. I literally got goosebumps typing that out because I never thought they would top Hot Damn, but they fuckin did it!
Religion of Speed could've made an amazing closer as well. But Map Change is the definitive ETID closer now. What a song
My initial impression is not as favorable as the majority here. I think it's good, not great. This album is different, though, and is going to take some time to absorb, which is the complete opposite of FPU (at least to me). From the moment I pressed play on FPU I could tell it was something special. But like I said, this one is going to take a little bit more time. Now having said that, I'm putting this on hold until Friday when I'll dive back in headfirst and listen non stop for awhile.
Agreed. All ETID albums before this have been stellar, but they've all lacked a cohesive theme so to speak. These songs all feel very connected and unified in their subject matter.
The 128 leak is definitely not mislabeled; the file sizes match up with what you would expect from mp3's encoded at that bitrate. I mean it sounds good for 128, but that's because it's not a stream rip, it appears to have been ripped from the actual CD. Also, I need to listen to FPU again. It's been a while, and I like it, but it's definitely toward the lower end of my ETID album rankings and everyone here seems to love it so much.
I dunno if I would say FPU is lower for me but the production choices are on the lower end, I just much prefer something like Low Teens production. But the songs themselves are great. Like production wise I would say bottom 3 are LNiT, GP and FPU
FPU is middle of the pack for me, but most of the the time I will switch albums around, with Hot Damn always being #1. But now with Low Teens, it will be #1 always, with HD #2, toss up after that.
I want to learn this whole album on guitar, and then play it nonstop. My wife will probably be annoyed after a while though.
So I just wanted to give my thoughts on "Cult". I think the song is about turning to religion in a moment of desperation. "Reverse the poles on the magnet. Pierce the armor of habit." Changing everything about who you are, leaving everything behind, in order turn to god for help. But then, realizing that it is the wrong decision and how crazy it would be to do that.
