I'm gonna gush a minute, excuse me.

Anyone that talks to me knows this is like a top 3 band for me, I love what they do and they were a gateway to heavier music for me. They probably have the largest discography of songs I love, and this album is just another excellent addition to that discography. The opener is one of their most ferocious and powerful openers I've heard, the experimentation is really nice and keeps things interesting while still maintaining that trademark ETID style. Keiths lyrics have always been excellent, he can go toe to toe with some of my other favorite lyricists like Geoff Rickly and Anthony Green and Justin Pierre, but on here he's stepped it up a notch. The lyrics are so desperate and passionate and clever and powerful, more-so than theyve ever been. The guitars and drumming are all top notch, the production is fantastic and works so well with this batch of songs. Map Change is my favorite ETID closer, that song feels like a proper closer to an album and not just a great song at the end like some of their other closers feel. Songs like Religion Of Speed and C++ and It Remembers are great experimental tracks that do some interesting things musically and add a lot to the albums variety and dynamics.

All I need now are those two bonus tracks and then everything will be right with the world.

I want oblivion all the time, mindless son of the eternal shine. It snuck up like a desert wind, I got a feeling I wont feel again. When faith abandons me I hope it does it honestly.

I completely agree. This band is really special and honestly one of the only metal bands I still regularly keep up (which is a shame and I should remedy that, but thats beside the point). This might be their best record.

It's interesting how this and Stage Four came out close to each other. Both really great albums about personal tragedies. The lyrical content really elevates it above previous ETID albums to another level. Keith sounds like he could fight everyone on Earth for his family.

  15. This is a little selfish of me to say because I know they wanted him but I'm really glad Kurt Ballou wasn't available to produce this record haha. The production they wound up with could not suit these songs better imo

i agree. i love kurts production style and FPU has a great production job on it, but I think Putney makes these songs pop a lot more, which makes sense because these songs are much more southern rock than anything.

Its interesting how FPU is probably their heaviest release, or one of its at least tied with Hot Damn, and this album is an exploration of their more southern rock/experimental side.

I think I'm gonna do the same, I really want to relive that feeling of investing in an album and then saying, "alright, what do you got for me?" Plus, this album deserves my purchase before I can get it on vinyl at a show

    Eat Snickers, leave garbage.

Absolutely. Speaking for myself at least, I think there's something so personal about how we grew up listening to music that way. It was like Christmas morning to wait for a big release and run to the store, unwrap it, look through the liner notes, and throw it on for that first anticipated listen. While I know that's not the common way it's done nowadays, I think this album would be perfect for that good old-fashioned approach and feeling.

I miss that kind of first experience with an album too but I just find I can never wait if I know it's out there

There are some records I still want to do that for (Bon Iver is the next one that comes to mind. I've ignored the live video and leak and only listened to one single one time), but most of the time if there is a stream or a leak available I'll go for it. I can't really explain why I feel like that about some records and not others, but it's just how I operate.

Well, actually, I didn't start keeping up with current music until 3 or 4 years ago, so I often didn't have the anticipation of waiting for something to come out. All the music I was into had already come out, haha.

man, the acoustic guitar at the beginning of Religion Of Speed absolutely knocked me off balance when I first heard it and it still feels so jarring, in a good way.

YOU CAN WAIT UNTIL THE RAPTURE, I WILL HIGH TAIL IT TO HELL. WATER EVERYWHERE BUT NO WATER FIT TO DRINK.
