As if I could get any more excited about this album. I'm taking the very old school approach with this one and I'm waiting to pick it up Friday from the store, tear it open, check out all the liner notes and artwork, and pop it in my car and blast it on the ride home. That experience and excitement was always something I loved doing with physical album releases and I want to enjoy that with this one too. Waiting the rest of the week is gonna be tough, but from everyone's glowing reviews, I'll be in for a treat. Glad to see everyone is enjoying it so much. Also, I love that poster from last night's show, I hope they make those available!
Funny how they name-drop From Parts Unknown and Last Night In Town on this album. Just cool little easter eggs. Yeah this album is a monster. It feels more cohesive than any other album which makes sense because these lyrics were all written around the same time. Did Keith and his wife have a daughter? Because if Petal is about what I think its about, then that song is even more amazing. It Remembers, Religion Of Speed, The Coin Has A Say and C++ are my favorites.
Yes, he did have a daughter I think. Pretty sure I remember reading that the situation surrounding that was what influenced Keith to write most of these lyrics.
yeah i knew that most of the lyrics were surrounding her birth i just couldnt remember if they had a girl or boy. Petal almost sounds like a sequel to Moor lyrically, with him kind of vowing to defend his daughter when he couldnt be there for his wife. something like that
Can you elaborate on what happened with the birth of his daughter? I missed it. From what I remember, she had to have an emergency C section due to complications during the birth, and his wife almost bled out or something? And he was away on tour and couldn't get home in time to be there for her?
yep i believe thats what happened. all of the lyrics from this album were written in one night at the hospital while Keith waited to hear news about his wife and child. theyre fine and healthy now, but there was a time where it looked very bleak.
Holy shit all of the lyrics in one night? The quality of the lyrics are that of someone who wrote them over the course of the year.
Wait he said ALL the lyrics on the album were written that one night? I thought it was just the few songs.
I'm pretty sure it was at least the majority of the lyrics, or at least that most of them deal with that subject matter
yeah if i can find the interview ill share it but i know its at least the majority of them. Which makes Petal even more eerie when you think about it.
The main riff in Just As Real... is probably one of the best they've ever written. Listen 2 was even better than the first. Holy shit this band is good.
"Help. It has gone black. The sky is black. Earth is frozen and black. The moon is black. Snow is black. Her eyes when open are black. Light is black. Leads are black. The wires that run from them are black. Stars are black. Time is black. But the thought of death is soft and clean and beautiful and white. It's the purest of the drugs. It's everything at once. What if meaning never comes? And I was just someone to fuck? All of life, beginner's luck? What becomes of all creation if the smallest prayer is firmly answered "no"? The greatest of the floods. There's a vacuum where the brightest future was. I'd better warm up my gun in case love is not enough. Sometimes silence is all silence is. I was wrong. Now I'm lost. What haven't I done? What have I done? What haven't I done to deserve a cold war on all sides? It's so bleak all the time. "Stay with me. You're alone in the center of hell. Just be." The longest winter I have ever seen. From hospital to hospital. Repeat. First I need to save the life of god so that god can come and save me from my self. If I have to walk alone I'm giving up. I can't stay here knowing love is not enough. Untimely ripped into this world I was born again as a girl." Fuck.
