I’ve come to enjoy “Black Nova” and don’t mind the song with BDoD. Tough for me to get through the new song, but I’m still looking forward to the cigarettes and water bottles EP.
I really like both new songs, and have gone back to try and listen to their older stuff and have found most of it pretty much unlistenable.
From the Green Day thread, to here, I almost appreciate the "yeah, I just like the bad new shit" posts
I understand Max hates Speak In Code, but I'd even take something that felt like S/T. This stuff is just so left field that it doesn't even feel like the same band – melodically, lyrically, etc. Part of what I loved about old Eve 6 was how well-constructed and thought-out it seemed. This just seems like they wrote an EP in one day.
In one of his Twitter yarns, he's said he thinks it's a bad album. There definitely seemed to be a real push and pull between him and Tony over the direction of stuff. Tony was definitely the driving force behind Horrorscope, and I would assume Speak In Code as well, given what they sound like now.
it's really too bad it's not Max/Tony/Jon anymore. Also interesting that despite the changes in lineups, this will be the first release without all 3 of them
That's disappointing to hear. I'm all for growth/changes but a massive strength of the band are their melodies/hooks. I show up for those.
"Speak In Code" definitely had some stinkers but was largely enjoyable. The b-sides were fun, too. Just so disappointed by this direction. C'est la vie.
I only love a few songs off Speak In Code. Black Nova is fun for me and Can We Combine is just ok but seems very half baked.
See, like, Horrorscope is something that I find so bad I don’t know how anyone could find it good. But I understand that all art is subjective and appreciate the broad spectrum of opinions on this website and in general.
I’m with you on this. Aside from a few guilty pleasures like Sunset Strip Bitch, Amphetamines, and Nocturnal - I don’t ever return to that record.
It’s All In Your Head > S/T > Speak In Code > Horrorscope I’ll hold out on ranking Grim Value til I hear it.
