I think this new album is a fun garage rock record. I understand that's not what people are looking for from this band, so I get the criticism. I definitely don't love all of it, but "Get You" has become one of my favorite songs of the year and "20 Ton Weight" is also really great. It's not the first thing I'll reach for when I want some Eve 6, but I'm glad it exists.

Listened to the album and it's definitely bad bad not good. That being said, there are two songs that I could see myself returning to: rosy shame and mr. darkside. Both those songs feel like they are good at their core, but ruined by shitty music and production

I wish Eve 6's current output was half as entertaining and clever as Max's shitposting.

What matters most is the band likes what they made.

This is true, but I've been thinking about this, and I don't know how this is going to come off, but I have a lot of conflicting thoughts here.

On the one hand, yes, it is important that a band enjoy what they're doing and putting out the music they want to make.

On the other hand, if a band has set certain expectations for their listeners regarding their sound, and then they go away for an extended period of time, is coming back with a completely different sound and marketing it as your former band disingenuous to your fanbase?

I get that it's hard to start over with a new name and redo branding when you have something that already exists, and certainly bands can do whatever they want, but I dunno. And yet, there is also something to be said for reclaiming a band's identity, doing what you want under it because it is yours with which to do what you want.

I am actually a big believer in bands being free to do whatever they want under their banner, mainly because a lot of bands lose members or break up due to differences in opinion over sound, and I feel like the best bands tend to paint with a huge palette and don't let themselves get constricted.

And yet again, on the other hand... alright, I'm going to throw an example out here, and try not to focus on the band I'm bringing up but on what I'm saying about them: Theory Of A Deadman. They were pretty much cookie cutter rock for like, five albums, and the fifth they went on record saying that Roadrunner was trying to pressure them to be more pop.

Sure enough, the following two albums were a complete genre and style change, losing a lot of the identity they had built up over the previous five albums. Granted, it wasn't much of an identity, but the backlash from their fanbase was huge, because it wasn't what they'd bought into the band for.

Anyway, now they seem to be shifting back to their old sound, so I guess the point I'm trying to make is that sometimes separating yourself from your past work so completely is a huge ask to a fanbase, and I have to wonder about the reasons behind it.

I dunno, I'm not actually trying to think this hard about Eve 6, but it is something I've thought about before, with other bands too.

I probably should’ve added an /s to my last post. But there’s like 5% of me that says it’s a valid point.

I actually don't think FOAM is as terrible as a lot of people make it out to be. It's not great either, but it's fun nonsense, and it's really not that far removed from other stuff they've done in the past.

Foam is way better, it's not even a contest, and I barely like anything about that album

Okay that is an insane thing to say. I legitimately think this album is better than FOAM, not drastically, but still.

  24. clockwise! my typical FOAM ally! what are you doing?! :-)

FOAM at least sounds like they tried and did, like, more than one take while recording.
