Echoing the post above, there was no reason not to bring Ali back earlier. Makes me feel like they knew how the story started and ended but weren't sure how to make the pieces fit together in a coherent way, which led to characters spinning their wheels in previous episodes. Glad to see the storylines finally converge and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time at least.
Good episode but just insane the character assassination for Nate. Feels like elordi got so big outside of the show that levinson was trying to debase him in a really odd way.
eh i don't really agree. compared to previous seasons, this is the most compelling storylines rue and maddy have been given and several of the best characters this season are the ones new to the season
In a vacuum I actually like the Nate death; Levinson’s desire to provoke is both a blessing and a curse but in this case I thought it was impressively nasty to forego the typical redemption arc and have a major character just get completely destroyed by their bad choices. Felt like some Jim Thompson/Harry Crews shit. …Which would’ve been cool if it wasn’t so obvious that they had like two weeks of Elordi’s schedule and just filmed all his scenes quick in an isolated environment and spread them out across the season. If he’d had anything resembling a narrative arc then the death would’ve hit a lot harder than just “damn, that’s dark lol”
Yeah it didn't make me feel anything considering S3 Nate felt like a completely different character. Sam gave Jacob nothing to work with. Felt more like torture porn lol
This season rules. I don’t even feel like I’m watching the same series from season 1 or 2 but who cares? Insanely entertaining.
welp any debate about this not actually being the series finale has to be over now biggest initial complaint is the complete fumble of jules. still need to process the rest of it.
That finale kinda sucked and I'm not just saying that because Hunter was hardly in it. I've been mostly meh towards this season but the last episode made me retroactively hate everything about it. Even tho I went in with low expectations this season was still a major disappointment and felt like a huge waste of time. Not only did it no longer feel like the same show, it wasn't even good. Hell, most of it was really fucking boring. Not even Zendaya's performance could save this trainwreck. This was like Game of Thrones and Stranger Things final season levels of bad
What do you mean? I always hoped the show would end with a shoot out between Ali and new character introduced in season 3!
entertaining season of tv but the finale really missed the mark, ignoring most of the characters that got us here. felt like levinson just wanted to indulge in a bunch of tarantino screenplay for that last 30 minutes or so
Some fun bits, some great moments, but man too much of it just felt like a western tumblr fan fic with the same characters lol
The funniest thing is in the after-show package, Sam says “This is ultimately an honest story about addiction.” Like, maybe seasons 1 and 2. But come on. It’s probably also telling that Zendaya is not in any of the post-show interviews. Regardless, I admire the total tone and genre switch, even if it was wildly uneven. Eko from “Lost” was great and Colman always delivers. I think Sam could be a solid director as long as he’s not writing the material.
This season felt like a really fun fanfic that accidentally got turned into a real season somehow. Like if you stop caring about things like themes, character development, and emotional grounding, it's a really entertaining 9 hours of television. But holy shit none of these characters got a satisfying resolution to their arcs, and apparently even the new characters (like Rosalìa's) got scenes cut. It especially hurt seeing Jules & Nate's very nuanced portrayals of trauma related to queer identity get entirely sidelined. I see a lot of people online complaining about various aspects of Rue's death, particularly the fact the other characters didn't know she was murdered and assumed her overdose was a result of her addiction. However I think these complaints are missing the point. The whole situation Rue ended up in was the result of her addiction, and she deserves grace and sympathy no matter how she died. I think having a funeral scene where we see all the characters mourn her, regret how they treated her, would've been too sentimental and obvious. I think the point is that everyone is going through an internal struggle just as complicated as Rue's and no one else will know its complexity. So for all the things I will criticize Sam Levinson for, I won't criticize how he handled Rue's death, even though I remain skeptical that it was necessary for her to die in the first place.
my thoughts on this season are and will continue to be incredibly mixed but i loved certain elements of it a lot and i think the finale was really good. bishop was far and away my favorite addition to the show this season.
