I guess this confirms those rumors about Barbie & Sam clashing on set. It is disapointing that this means Kat's character will never get any resolution, and just be remembered for her absolutely disasterous final arc, but I'm glad Barbie doesn't feel compelled to deal with another production cycle of Levinson Chaos. Also does anyone know what's going on with the Hunter Schafer drama right now? A lot of people are calling her a transmedicalist, but I don't know what she did specifically to trigger the backlash.
This stings. I've experienced so much of this made up and weaponized divide between binary and non binary trans people that classically ignores who the real threats are that, at this point, I can't help but feel numb when I see her cosign this extremely bad take.
Binged the series in a week because of unemployment and besides the Jules special being co-written by Hunter, isn’t everything written by Sam? I think it’s one of those “auteur” HBO shows where there’s no writers room so the creator can basically maintain full control/not have to pay other union writers. And I think that’s a big problem with this. It reminded me of listening to the “Breaking Bad” commentaries and Vince Gilligan talks about how much he loves a writer’s room because they challenge him on his decisions and direction of the show, don’t allow him to get married to one idea and balance the weight of handling a giant show. I think Levinson might be a talented director and idea guy, but I think he’s a shit writer who happens to have all the right pieces (cast, production budget, cinematographer, score) and lets it down by trying to do everything (This applies to anything he’s done, including “Malcolm and Marie.”) Binging this, you basically watch the show flail around from great episodes to navel-gazing nonsense. Like, there are times when you can tell he’s writing really personal stuff from the experiences of an addict. And then there’s just goofy stuff for no reason. I also find his use of the word “fuck” after literally every other word absolutely tiring. For me, the play stuff constantly ground the episodes to a halt. There’s so many pedantic nit picks I had with that: like no one’s gonna pack an auditorium to watch a current student’s black box production on her group of friends and on top of that, cheer like they’re at a Harry Styles show and on top of that, the school administration allow for fights to break out without shutting the whole thing down. I’ve just basically accepted the whole school admin staff is just the one guy that gave Lexi a Broadway budget based on one question without seeing a script. I can only imagine how bad “The Idol” is going to be, especially with its own shake-ups.
hmmmm…I think we’re forgetting about show produced by one of the star’s dads - “Freaks and Geeks” baybee!
