Yeah I got emotional during the second half of that song, that's one I can't wait to spend some more time with.
Great album. It feels like if you took Preachers Daughter and Perverts and put them together inside of an old southern house from the 1900s. Tempest is the big highlight upon first listen, but there really isn't a bad track on here.
have avoided the singles and listening in full now. about halfway through and it's phenomenal. loved Perverts, I clearly should check out Preachers Daughter at some point lol
Is Dust Bowl another song that was floating around previously, or maybe on her bandcamp or something? I love it.
I thought I'd just whack this on while doing some chores this morning as I enjoyed Nettles and Fuck Me Eyes and thought I'd finally check out an Ethel Cain album for once. I am bailing out here at track 4. There is no way I am continuing to listen to this album without giving it my full attention. These 4 tracks have been absolutely magical. There is so much passion pouring out of this. I'm getting the big headphones and the booze out tonight and giving this the "first listen" it clearly deserves.
This is the way to do it. My first listen was at work yesterday morning when I suddenly became The Most Important Person In The Office and I was interrupted a million times. I should’ve just waited.
First listen.... I'm slightly disappointed. I love the aesthetic and vibe and have so much respect for her artistic vision and will definitely return to it over the coming days. It may be that the darkness of PD left a stronger and more immediate impression on me but I found some of this to be middling in the way that PD prevented from happening in the longer tracks. Not applicable to Eyes, Tempest or Waco.
I think this album is pretty good. I haven’t really sat down to give it the proper listen it really deserves, so I suspect I’ll like it even more once I do. As it stands, this is the most I’ve enjoyed one of her albums. Eighth grade death pact strike me dead
Really good on first listen, I imagine these songs mix with a full stage show/production is gonna go off really well, especially when I see her live for the 2nd in London in October!!
You can praise Ethel's album without shitting on an unrelated genre a significant chunk of the userbase listens to. What makes hip-hop not actual music in your eyes?
It was more a statement about the publishing practices of Pitchfork than anything else To me it lacks melody, sensitivity and humility as well as promoting hypersexualised behaviour (especially within young people) Not sure why Hip Hop fans find the idea of people disliking the genre so offensive - I'm sure Country/Techno/Grindcore fans understand why their genres may be unpalatable to some
