Recently I was able to connect with Errth, the newest addition to Philadelphia’s vibrant punk scene. Including Kevin Day (Aspiga/Graduation Speech), Eric Saylor (Reunions), Tim DeMarco (ex-Public Serpents), and Brian McClure (Seeing Snakes), Errth mixes the influences of East Bay, Chicago, and Northeast punk bands for an end result that is familiar yet refreshing. With three different songwriters at the helm, each identity has a moment to shine but is reinforced by the group as a whole. In this brief interview, I asked them about their cool new single called “New Orleans,” that will officially be released this Thursday, and the band’s writing process. If you’re enjoying the new single, please consider supporting the band here.

Can you walk me through the writing process for your latest single, called “New Orleans”?

Tim DeMarco: The three of us write songs that we send to each other for consideration. Some of the songs are rough ideas we bring to practice, some are way more fleshed out. Eric sent this one more or less finished and we learned it pretty quickly. At the time, it was probably the fastest song in our repertoire and we’ve noticed people seem to react very well to it when we play it live.

What inspired your band to make music together?

Tim DeMarco: We’ve all been doing this for over half our lives. I’ve known Kevin since we were little nuggets and I had planned on starting something with him when I got back from Germany in 2022. Right around that time, Eric moved to Philly and reached out to Kevin about starting something new. And no band exists without a silid, reliable drummer. Luckily, Kevin and Brian know each other from their involvement in the Philly punk scene. We all met up at a Goddamnit, Tired Radio, and Celebration Summer show to hammer out a practice schedule and the rest is history.

If you were to dream up a concert lineup for your band to be a part of, who would be three other bands that you feel would best contribute to the overall show?

Tim DeMarco: We all have similar tastes, but slightly different enough that it is impossible to find a dream lineup for all 4 of us. I know it probably sounds a little predictable, but a safe bet would be Hot Water Music, The Lawrence Arms, and Jawbreaker. (Though Kevin says he’s breaking up the band as soon as we play with Jawbreaker, so I’d swap them out for Dillinger Four).
