yeah a week removed and im fully sold on this now. its cool hearing these guys make an album that the populace has been able to get behind without it feeling like it was intentionally done that way, and im stoked for them that the response has been pretty overwhelming. probably only my 5th favorite erra still, but if someone were to ask me where to start with this band i would probably point them here and have them work backwards chronologically. sets you up well to have your mind blown by the rest of their discog while also being super strong on its own terms that whole mid stretch of cicada siren / echo sonata / lucid threshold really holds things down, really amazing run
thankful for the way this has threaded me back to their old material as well. starting to revert back to my initial take that impulse is a contender for their best. so cool how fully formed they were out of the gate what an amazing amazing band past and present. glad everyones fully caught on now
They posted a clip on their Instagram of Jesse going into the crowd and up to the balcony to play guitar amongst the people! Two weeks. April 1st. My first concert in easily a decade. Maybe longer.
Saw them at Irving Plaza and they crushed. I'm pretty sick of big screens at concerts but they had sick visuals.
he did, hes pretty buried though on the album. i would never have noticed most of this stuff without the playthrough and cicada siren is my most listened to song here
buried? no way idk if you're supposed to be able to notice every minute intricacy of an instrument in a mix. that doesn't seem like the point these videos are a good supplement to a pretty incredible sounding record
Streaming services and audio formats all having different levels of sound quality has become more noticeable. The new Boundaries song straight up sounded better or worse depending on what you listened to it on (apparently the music video sounded best, but that new mix they posted was much better overall). I notice it with this album on Apple Music and Spotify, but to a much, *much* lesser extent than the Boundaries song.
i mean lets be real neither of us can speak on their intentionality on that front, all i can say is i myself would enjoy hearing the cymbals and hi hats more prominently than i do, especially if they're emphasizing how detailed oriented his performance is themselves
i was sort of speaking about my own interpretation of how any mix should be perceived and although i think this is quite a drum forward mix already, it's obvs fair for you to think that haha
That song is incredible. I listened to the album all the way through once and didn't pick up on this one, but this is so good it's making me want to revisit the entire thing
yeah this is an album ive definitely needed some time with to settle into. its sick though lol just jammed it on a walk
this is growing off me again unfort, increasingly feel like theyve hit the end point on the whole "being songwriters in progcore" thing where theyve stripped away all the things that made them interesting songwriters to me which is tragic since i feel like the biggest advocate for them in that regard specifically over the last 5 years lol. oh well immensely grateful for cicada siren though, have listened to that song so much since it has come out. don't even really think it's doing anything crazy as much as it is a super important piece of emotional regulation while my brain is falling apart
ill always love these guys with all my heart but realizing just exactly how little ive listened to it in full since its come out has kinda made me that this is the first erra album where ive gotten into them where i've looked them in the eye and don't recognize who i am seeing
