I remember last year some of the press for Deftones described them as “playing metal prettily” (or something like that) and now that I’ve heard this one a few times I’d say it also describes ERRA.
Speaking of Deftones, towards the end of this Jesse makes the claim that Stef Carpenter likes ERRA. I wonder if there’s any truth to that or if he just recognizes how the older bands have all evolved.
This might be my favourite album of theirs. Songs sound a bit fuller and more fleshed out than the last album, but it retains the catchy songwriting of that album. Feels like they somehow perfectly balanced simplifying their sound but also becoming more technical.
I feel like with this one they now outclass almost every other singer/screamer combo in the scene. And on top of that, they still sound fantastic as a duo when they’re both singing.
I can imagine this being on a Ghost Atlas album. Love when Jesse mixes a little of that into the recipe. Also, can Alex Ballow get some love?? Dude is a fucking MONSTER on the drums. Holy shit.
really satisfied with how this turned out. already really enjoyed the singles and in the context of the album are even better. feels like a great aggregation of their previous stuff with some nice flourishes we haven't heard from them before. truly at their height.
I wish echo sonata wasn't a single just because I think I would have lost my mind hearing it tucked into the middle of this
Boyssss this is really fucking good. I'm unreasonably excited to see them again in a few weeks. Wow. Gonna take a few listens to digest fully. So sooooo good.
this is tbh pretty far from my favorite erra album but its still very pretty, very catchy, very heavy, and all things erra in one package
I’m also feeling a little lighter on this than I was maybe expecting, hearing Gore + Echo especially I was kind of anticipating something with the self titled’s energy and technicality with the tones and heaviness of Cure but it really ended up being more like Cure 2. Black Cloud has amazing verses but feels a little undercooked, the ending trio doesn’t feel super connected to me, Stelliform is good but not a great opener?? Idk despite all my complaints they are very good at what they do and it’s a good listen
yeah the more i jam this the more i think its one of their weakest, if not their weakest, but i still like it, theyre erra ofc its at least solid
I'm one of the people who thinks Cure is a better album than the self-titled, and this is just combining a lot of elements from their previous works really well. There's a couple songs I'm soft on, but as an album experience I'm enjoying it a lot. I think it's pretty obvious from interviews and things they've said that their goal is to be better songwriters and still have the technical aspects, and I think most of the album accomplishes this. At least for me, it feels like a better balance than Cure (and I like Cure a lot).
i do love cure, this is kind of the first stage in their evolution in a while i havent been all in on. they were my favorite band when self titled dropped so i had my table set perfectly for me but i honestly jammed cure more than any other erra album the last two years. idle wild, blue reverie, glimpse, end to excess and wave are all some of their strongest
Knowing that black cloud was inspired(?) by the passing of Jesse's dad, but not necessarily about it, still hits home so hard. I lost my dad 8 years ago and the chorus gives me tears every time I hear it. BTW if anybody has seen the set-list for this tour with Currents, holy shit....get your tickets now.
On my first listen and the trilogy goes hard. I'm a sucker for pitchshifted riffs and Gut Of The Wolf brings that in spades
lucid threshold for me, that ending is so sick. reminds me a lot of like erra doing a via era volumes song
