I would not say SIlent Planet and Erra are really all that close besides both being laballed metalcore. Erra has all the modern production stylings of metalcore, but an 'old school' screamo feel with the high pitched choruse's amongst the heavier verses. Early silent planet was more akin to a metalcore La dispute with very poetic, story telling lyrics and more of an anguished type of vocal style than full on screams like they do now (though Garrett always has had beastly lows). They have gone industrial lately, but it's not what they're known for at their roots. I do like the new Erra songs but I'm not their biggest fan overall. I much prefer Jesse in Ghost Atlas. Gaps in the Armoire is one of my favorite songs of recent years.
I think Silent Planet might be my number 2 metalcore band just because of how nice all of them are. Garrett might as well be IRL Superman.
I've always loved Silent Planet's ability to put humanity and ethics first in their music, and I will always respect them for that. That said I do think Erra makes more captivating music nowadays
Silent Planet only uses 6 string guitars, but ERRA uses 7 strings. So they're at least one string better than Silent Planet.
Steph loses points because of how dumb he is. Love his playing, love Deftones but the man is stupid. Thankfully he's harmless since I'm sure we've all seen people get into the stuff he's into and come out insanely hateful.
ngl i kinda think silent planet and erra have sounded more like each other recently than not but i think thats more because dan braunstein is producing both of them and i think he kind of threads a lot of similar aesthetics through all of his bands, plus erra have definitely gotten groovier in the last few years also dan has absolutely killed it this decade between this band, silent planet, spiritbox and invent animate, which is exciting to see as a big volumes fan (who he has also been killing it with bring on that new album pls). dude has become like the djent adam d
Upgraded to an iPhone 16 from an 8 and now relistening to Cure just through phone speakers and I’m noticing so much stuff lol
been rinsing both new songs nonstop on my work breaks lately, such a powerful double a side combo. both will prob be staple songs of theirs forever
I'm begging for them to announce new tour dates or a Christmas show or something. I know they always go quiet around this time of year but this was a lot earlier than usual.
my hope and dream is theyre taking an early hibernation in preparation for album season in the first quarter of the year
I still think the first half of the year will be Drift 10 year anniversary celebrations, since Drift dropped in April. It’ll be a busy year for sure depending on how much they do for that. I saw the set videos from that date and I thought it was sweet how friendly ERRA and Holywatr were with each other (also saw the video where Holywatr played One Last Breath with JT and Alex after saying Creed was Architect’s favorite band in Philly). Interesting that no one went up to prank Architects though.
JT’s gonna get interviewed on the Late For Load In podcast (Chris Davis from The Ghost Inside and Texas In July) on idobi howl in like 25 minutes (if you miss it it’ll get uploaded to their YouTube later)
It's mostly talking about personal stuff like how he got started. He talked about Sleeper and mentioned that he's not sure his brother knows it's about him and how he finds it easier to write from outside his own perspective. He did say some things though: - He talked about Clint writing and alluded to Jesse being happy to share that weight. - He confirmed that ERRA is done for the year and he's gonna use his time off to get healthier and work with a new vocal coach. - He said "people should look at the dates our albums came out and they should be able to figure out what's next."
On their Instagram stories they did mention Clint wrote part of (or most of) Gore of Being. Sooooo, Spring 2026 then?
I should point out that I don’t think he meant exact dates when he said “dates” I think he meant years. The conversation was leaning into what’s coming tour wise plus he makes a joke about counting after the quote. Which could mean “it’s been two years since Cure therefore new album time” but I’m taking it as “count how many years it’s been since each album has come out, one of them is almost ten.” Unless LP7 is literally called Drift 2 (I hope not) I think we’re getting a Drift tour first then LP7 maybe in the summer.
i would be kind of surprised if the drift tour happens before the new album, not really sure itd be a smart move for them with us already having two singles that would set a really long timeline for it to drop in the summer, theyve already started the hype cycle for that. i feel like spring is a safe bet since most times album tours dont sync with the exact anniversary
Saw people talking about a still in the Gore of Being video that they think hints towards a Feb 6th release date and this is what they showed me when I asked about it. Their theory is that this means the album will be announced on Dec 12th based off of previous UNFD releases (particularly ERRA and Ghost Atlas). EDIT: It could be 26 for 2026 I just realized this
