I think The Favourite is his most accessible and funniest movie. But I don’t know if it’s a good starter because it’s not exactly representative of the rest of his stuff.
As great as the Godfather is, it did not do some great job in aging the actors. DeNiro and Brando feel like different characters, as they always do when actors are replaced.
I would start with dogtooth, alps, lobster… if you are enjoying then do deer and keep going. (Or start with deer and then go to dogtooth) my ranking of his movies is all over the place but if you haven’t seen any then might as well start with dog and alps. I’ve enjoyed all his movies but very mixed bag overall. Either way stop at favourite.
Years ago, probably like long long ago, someone recommended Coherence and I wrote it down. Watched it last night and it was pretty cool
saw Christy and Jay Kelly last night, both great movies. made a Christy thread here: Christy (David Michôd, November 7, 2025) • forum.chorus.fm seeing Resurrection and The Mastermind tonight. even more pumped for these two. Resurrection thread here: Resurrection (Bi Gan, 2025) • forum.chorus.fm
should probably add Resurrection to my watchlist. Criterion Channel had streaming rights to Bi Gan's Long Day's Journey Into Night several years back and i was a big fan of that
I liked that one a lot, but Kaili Blues totally blew me away. the long one-take is utterly mindbending. the description for this new one sounds wild af
heard great things about Kaili Blues too. still need to watch. i think Janus has distribution rights here in the US for Resurrection, so i'm expecting a Criterion release down the line
