Yeah that was not a good look for him at all between this and Red One.. Black Adam flopping is was a blessing in disguise, definitely humbled his ass that's for sure
Reading through Vin's latest post.. a Groot spin off film?! And what the fuck is going on with the latest Riddick film.. I swear they completed filming ages ago!
Netflix saw all that money WB movies have been making with theatrical releases and thought “this must be stopped.”
Honestly the only thing that is keeping something like that from happening is that these movies aren't making much money. Otherwise we would be looking at more Terminator, Die Hard, and beyond.
Patrick (H) Willems latest video on Youtube Premium is about de-aging. Unlike other digital appears effects like up-ageing or giving someone alien skin which create a new fantasy for us to believe in, de-aging competes against our real memories of the younger actor. A film should engross you in its world, that is very hard to do when your brain is involuntarily scanning every scene for faults. Funny too that the more realistic the effect the hard we scan.
I did! I really liked it, it felt reminiscent of a few different filmmakers but landed on a mix that felt new and unique. It's also very funny.
Thank you Spyki you have renewed my faith in this thread. Yeah theres def 2 directors who initially come to mind but I think its mostly just the framing, as it progressed it becomes clear they have their own voice with something new to say.
I watched Universal Language on Friday night and then Rumours last night. Felt right to watch them back to back based on the word of mouth and reviews. I liked Universal Language a lot more. Rumours had its moments but definitely NOT top Maddin IMO. I think to recommend UL to a random stranger is wild though. I dug it but can't imagine telling my parents to watch it lol. (I'm not saying anyone in this thread did that.)
Tarantino is more accessible, but PTA’s films usually have more to offer on rewatch. Both are able to craft pretty layered characters. I think I’d lean PTA a bit.
QT is probably the director most responsible for getting me to love film. One of those “rewired my brain” moments watching Reservoir Dogs for the first time. All that being said, he does not have a film that is as good as There Will Be Blood or The Master, and PTA has nothing as bad as Django or H8
I do really feel like I've grown up with them to an extent. Tarantino's films were always more popular but Anderson was just as important to me after accidentally watching Punch-Drunk Love. Wes Anderson would have made a trio but I haven't felt the same kindred spirit.
