Of the movies out this week, I’d sooner see that Big Beautiful whatever than I would Him. Skimming through some upcoming films, I know I’d like to see One Battle After Another, The Smashing Machine, The Mastermind, Bugonia, Predator: Badlands, Wicked: For Good, Wake Up Dead Man, and Avatar: Fire and Ash. Bugonia is maybe the one most actively exciting to me of those?
Big beautiful whatever movie is a big no thank you from me. Will see bugonia but I’m not a big Yorgos fan.
Relatively niche. Napa Boys is an upcoming comedy by Nick Corirossi that's been compared to David Wain movies. I am a huge fan of his work (notably Cuplicated) and I like the cast a lot. The reviews out of TIFF are incredibly divisive and just make me want to see it more. Blue Heron is by Sophy Romvari and getting some pretty glowing reviews from the critics that I follow who have seen it. The director has a film Still Processing from 2020 that I need to see.
70 Up is coming out after all next year and if they just follow the formula that is going to be one of the best of 2026.
Friendship is probably my favorite of the year this far, but I have a lot to catch up on. Big Bold Beautiful Journey, One Battle After Another, Smashing Machine, Wake Up Dead Man, and Avatar are my remaining most anticipated.
There’s pretty much a movie every week that I’m anticipating. One Battle next week, Smashing Machine and Good Boy the next, Roofman and (regrettably) Tron:Ares after that, Bugonia, Running Man, etc. etc.
Have you considered instead just listening to the score when it drops, while watching a gif or video of an old school screensaver?
Definitely interest in running man and roof man but don’t think those will be near the top of my year end lists.
I justify it as I’m seeing it for Gillian Anderson, just like I saw Blade Runner 2049 for Gosling, Ford and Dave Batista’s tiny glasses.
Didn't know this. I think I've only seen the first two. Gonna try to catch up on the previous entries before the new one.
It is such an incredible experience to watch these people grow and age. The last one dealt with the first death and obviously the director died since then and you just have to look at that cloud overhead and think about what it means for you and your family and loved ones. The greatest thing Roger Ebert ever did was bring attention to the movies.
This will be the first Up film to be released since I watched them all so that will be an interesting experience returning to them after a while.
I got tickets for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, One Battle After Another and The Smashing Machine but waiting for tickets for HIM to go onsale.. and hopefully it will have an afternoon screening.. not a fan of late night screenings
