Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have pretty much disappeared. They only wrote the first Scary Movie, but their string of "parodies" was probably the nadir of 21st century filmmaking.
the only movie i've seen adjacent to the concept was Superhero Movie when i was much younger, and even then i knew it was trash. despite only seeing that one, i know the general consensus is that none of those movies have ever been good.
They "parody" movies that were not even out yet when they were filming which means they must have just watched the trailer and then crossed them with some pop culture reference that was a little too old to be funny.
Marlon should be so embarrassed with the trans jokes in this, considering his kid’s identity and the bullshit this fuels.
Date Movie is maybe the worst movie I have ever seen in theaters. Those parody movies from the aughts were terrible
At least the other ones had gags. This one didn't even feel like tthere were that many attempts at jokes.
I thought they were funny when I was a kid. I was probably wrong but idk. Maybe not. Havent seen them since then. Not going to rewatch
I would say the first 3 range from “some funny moments” to “legitimately funny overall”, imo. Theres some dated references now, like the and1 commercial parody in 2, but still funny. 3 is a step down from 1 and 2 but there’s still some good jokes and gags in it. The hat gets me every time
Yeah I mean I guess by parody movies I’m specifying the Scary Movie offshoots specifically, but even the fourth Scary Movie showed they were running on fumes
The best gag in this is when Ghostface tries to stab someone in a doctor’s office and instead stab’s a poster of the cartoon guy people point show where it hurts and the cartoon screams. Real Mel Brooks-type stuff.
I feel like the franchise is golden handcuffs for him, in the sense that the first two were pretty offensive, so now they feel they have to do them. It’s all the laziest “I identify as a..” jokes that someone’s racist uncle would say at Thanksgiving in 2019.
The trailer for that new one was so bad, it confirmed I would never go see it even if I was getting paid to. Godspeed to those of you who were like, “idk, maybe it’s worth my time.”
