Buncha haters in here. Mayyyybe the show sucks now but give Ashley Padilla a few more seasons before cancelling the whole damn thing
I watch SNL every week. There are more misses than hits but there is still some good and funny stuff on the show. It's always the people that haven't watched it in years that say it sucks. The show has always been more misses than hits though.
This is really what I always go back to. Deep down I think SNL is kinda how it's always been but we're now in a place where we have access to so many different forms of humor from different outlets compared to the "we gotta tune in!" times that it just feels worse. I'm sure it all ebbs and flows like anything else you'd expect to be scripted in less than a week
Yep, I’ve watched since I was a kid and I’ll probably never stop. The analogy has been beaten to death but it’s like being ride or die for a bad sports team. They’re gonna let you down a lot, but the wins are special and reward you for sticking around. Always rooting for them even if they make it difficult sometimes lol
I only tune in when I like the host. Maybe the format itself is antiquated but liek, Game Changer isn't gonna have Olivia Rodrigo as a guest. (I should really sub up Dropout...)
The show has definitely always been more misses than hits. It’s easy to cherry pick sketches from any era of the show and say “it was better then”, but often those were the single solid sketch of the week and the rest of the episode is not remembered for good reason
Yeah that was another thought I had, no one is going to be like "hey remember that episode in the 90s where all the sketches sucked" lmao the brain will cherry pick the good ones
There's literally 1000 episodes of the show with like 8 sketches per episode. The show has been consistently inconsistent for 51 years. Just seems natural with that kind of output.
Have you maybe considered that, since I personally do not watch it, maybe it should end so no one else will watch it? Maybe then they’ll watch things I like instead.
My wife and I used to watch SNL every week on sunday morning. We eventually slowed to only watching those with hosts we like, then not really watching often at all. I do feel like there was more of a cultural imperative to keep up with it which has waned a bit in recent years, probably due to streaming among other things.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Disney tries to buy them so they no longer miss out like they are with Doomsday
