Lost in Translation is probably a more perfect film, but Marie Antoinette is interesting in how it re-contextualizes Marie Antoinette.
Okay and if I did not like Lost in Translation but liked the Virgin Suicides where does that put her other stuff?
1. Lost in Translation 2. Marie Antoinette 3. Somewhere 4. The Virgin Suicides 5. Priscilla 6. Lick the Star 7. The Bling Ring 8. On The Rocks 9. The Beguiled I have not seen Marc by Sofia yet. She has leaned into the Lost in Translation style more over the years so you might not like them. Somewhere is her most artsy.
love Lost in Translation and Virgin Suicides. Priscilla is good too. haven’t seen Marie Antoinette or Somewhere yet
LiT is the only other one of hers i've seen. agree with Spo about liking the style of it over the story, although i can't go into a liquor store anymore without seeing a bottle of Suntory and thinking "make it a Suntory time"
We watched Clown in a Cornfield in my horror movie class because I have the author coming in to talk with the kids, and one of my students is adamant that it is the best movie that we watched in class because the camera is so clear. He also argued that the new Scream movies are better than the old ones because of the camera quality.
One of the jocks has been mad at me for three days because I was talking with a cinephile kid about how bad Jack and Jill is.
I loved Somewhere but it was divisive among my friends, then the Bling Ring was even more so, so a lot of my friends never saw the Beguiled or On the Rocks. I don’t think either of them are that bad but they are anomalous entries for her. Priscilla was closer to what I look for from Sofia
Priscilla was a return to form. The Bling Ring is a tough one because it is supposed to be a critique but sort of feels like an endorsement.
Night of the Hunter Psycho Night of the Living Dead Texas Chain Saw Massacre Halloween Scream I could understand the kids liking it more than NotLD
